Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

As yet another example of mo--nic leadership at att ....

How dumb to not debut Hbo max BEFORE the holiday weekend. They could have had that many more eyeballs on it if they just debuted it on Friday instead of this coming Wednesday. Are they that unprepared that they could not move it up a few days ? Either unprepared or asleep at the wheel. Either way, another example of no real plan.

Play with numbers... another way of saying "I really don't understand it at all".

They will just play with the numbers and when they drop it because of the numbers they will just say moving on to new technology. Place is a joke.

thanks for the suggestion about the book, its a bit pricey and no Kindle version I gotta save my pennies since I may be one of the casualties of ATT downsizing:-) Seriously, I think this author needs to do a part 2. I bet the same mistakes will show up in part 2. Business failures are usually repeated. However, we usually beat up on Stephenson and Stankey, I would love to hear from people who know him or word in his org that have favorable views of him.

kIpy - you are right on the money. Read the book “ the rise and fall of AT&T” if you doubt the failures of Armstrong’s tenure. I grew up on the SBC side.... I was part of stanky’s org and saw first hand that he could care less if the company could actually deliver on promises made... he figured that we should just brow-beat operations to figure out how to deliver.... he is going to be better than Randall, but that is a pretty low bar...

Wednesday is going to be HUUUGE! Stankypuss will single handedly turn this company around when HBOMax is released! All our jobs will be saved!

I am SOO inspired to work for such a television genius. In fact, Stanks knows TV better than the professionals who have spent their entire working life working in media entertainment. It's true - he said so.

Whoa, so much anger and hatred toward Stankey. Where is this coming from? Do people really hate AT&T this much? Wow.

John Stankey told his HBO executives to quit pushing back on his decisions as he knows more about producing media than they do. That's all we need to know about these dumb decisions

After the DTV, TMobile and Warner overpaying fiascos, the HBOMax fail will be the nail in the coffin.

I have already read about selling off DirectTv into a separate operating unit. I have also read about Construction & Engineering (supposedly along with fixed Wire Line) being moved into a separate operating unit.

How long do you think we have before the entire company is broken into to piece parts and dismantled? Personally, I think at a minimum several parts of the company that used to be considered strategic just a few short years ago will no longer be a part of T.

It looks to me like we are in the shedding businesses stage at the moment during the worst of possible times for the sellers. We still have that nagging debt that will be with T as long as there is a T. In addition to other things going on, the slow-down in the economy exacerbated by the corona virus has only made our situation even worse than it otherwise would have been. In other words, it sped everything in motion up and will play out even quicker than originally planned. T's hand will be forced whether they are confident in the future plans or not. It's too late to turn back, we are too far down stream to reverse course now. They will cherry-pick what is deemed to be T's crown jewels as a final landing place for select upper management and jettison everything and everybody else.

My thoughts are only my own. Just looking out and opining about what I see. That's all.
