Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Lack of Communication & uncertainty

In my opinion, AT&T is a joke. There has been a lack of communication and integrity, since I joined them. I had lost my film/TV and Audio Visual gigs as a freelancer because of the pandemic. I came to AT&T as a way to keep money coming in especially because UI benefits are very uncertain.

We were promised five weeks of training, and then we only got four days of training. In addition, AT&T cancelled the 20% hazard pay on us even though the pandemic is still active, and we have to wear masks. I still have not gotten my wireless discount and have spent so much time calling the call center and chatting with managers to get it applied. As of now it shows on my account but no discount and has made my wireless go up as it took my veteran discount off.

Finally, a new class started shortly after our class, and they are getting five weeks of training, better pay, and even swag. To date, me and my colleagues really have not had good training and are not as familiar with all of their systems and products. There is a lot of uncertainty and lack of communication.

It seems likely we are temporary just hired to support WFH employees until they are either brought back from home or get software encryption to continue WFH. What would be nice is if they set the expectations of what the future holds for us. I am fine with this endeavor being temporary—in fact, I planned on it…Just would be nice to know when that date would be approximately and how the layoffs would work… Would we get severance pay maybe??

Be happy you didn't get the phone discount. After they cut you lose, which you think will be temporary, you'll be stuck with a BIG bill and a BIG penalty if you cancel.

Hahahahaha, think of us all as your dads. Be here as long as you need and gtfo! Long enough to be valid on a resume, or if something else comes along before then. This isn’t your grandparents phone company anymore. It’s no longer a rock of decades long stable employment. But instead a never ending fubar s-show here ruled by incompetent rectum lickers.

I’m amazed this place is still able to lure fresh meet with the “prestige🤣” of working here. Most management doesn’t advise their family and friends to work here! The old saying goes....friends don’t let friends work for the phone company!

Can’t say we didn’t warn you. Take care

You lost your film job because of the pandemic yet ATTwas hiring after that; nothing sounds right about your story.

At least you realize this early on in your career. Milk this cow as long as you need to get your finances together, but look for better options in the mean time. This is NOT an environment or a company you want to sacrifice your life to.

Get out of it ASAP! I gave AT&T 10 years. Went thru 3 layoffs and got called back on one and bumped someone on the other, then left on the third because I did not want to relocate. Overall most of the people I worked with were great. New manager every year, etc. My IT skills suffered as my title only allowed certain work functions. Yeah, I could have kept my training going, but 2 hours drive time everyday and 10 hours plus mandatory overtime kind of drains even the best of us. Do what you have to do, but your future is better some where else.

Just a quick question, what’s the reason why you joined the company? I think it was to secure a paycheck and benefits, you still have both and then some... my suggestions is to keep enjoying why you started working there and keep looking for something better but definitely don’t stay because you are going to be very miserable, your performance will suffer and then it really gets horrible.

run far far away - you should not work for this company. this company is in self destruction mode and I would run far far far far away. no way you could have a career at this company. all the chosen ones are chosen and selection is complete. you will be nothing but cannon fodder for the chosen ones or should we say leaders.

This is not a company you should even work for. There are way better opportunities out there with better pay and benefits. Find something better. Get your resume tailored, cover letter ready and update your LinkedIn account so you can be ready for a new position.

"Just would be nice to know when that date would be approximately"

You just described what every other employee in this company goes through, and why this site is so active. It is just part of being employed here. There is no job security, so making life/financial decisions just have to be made with that uncertainty in mind.

Welcome to AT&T. Sometimes you get the lube and other times you get it dry, but you always get it up the rear.

Try working here for 5, 10, 15+ years of your life with that. Lack of communication for a telecommunications company, not new news. Things aren’t fair? Normal. Things have gotten worse every year. At least you’re seeing how it is upfront. Either deal with it or leave.
