For starters, it was 42% of the 980 or so employees that were rebadged. Some of those people will be training their India based replacements, but it's not 1:1, more like 4:1. Expect even c-appier responsiveness and initiative taking from IBM after this.
And second - this was planned long before the pandemic - the people were chosen in February, selected managers were asked to start making training plans in March.
And finally; these cuts in IBM extend far beyond just the yosemite group. Somewhere between 15-20% of IBM's entire US staff were cut on Thursday.
