Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

A look at AT&T's brilliant leadership strategy ...

So, the deathstar thinks AT&T TV will save it, and so they're making it their lead product in a bundle with their fiber, leaving DIRECTV as a distant option for rural folks.

Sounds like it makes sense, right? High speed fiber internet means something like AT&T TV would be ideal.

Except ... AT&T doesn't have meaningful fiber penetration in either NY or LA. Basically no footprint in the two biggest markets. One might think that the fearless leaders would continue to try and created reasonable options using satellite for those areas, right?

Oh, what am I thinking.

Can T even place fiber for residential service in NY where they aren't the I-LEC?

It’s turned into a money machine for those in the C-suite!! Tens of millions in compensation for poor performance. The Board of Directors are puppets that serve the CEO and not the stock holders. It’s just 13 people that show up to collect their $400k retainer!!

The new ATT TV boxes are junk. They are a big step down from UVerse service - they are limited on features, the guide is completely inferior, and they take half an eternity to change channels. A customer could get faster service using a Direct TV dish receiving from a satellite up in the sky.

And these things are a MAJOR PITA to install! After the stupid thing does all its updates and questionaires and TOS's, you have to call in to the appropriate department to find out exactly which of the customer's IDs and passwords it wants you to use, which is usually NOT the one you just made up when registering the customer's internet.

As long as it takes for a technician to get these poorly designed pieces of junk working, there is no way one of our 'average' customers could install this himself as a self install. If Randall thought this was going to allow him to lay off his technicians, think again. It's easier and quicker to install UVerse boxes than these things.

AT&T is really only outsourcing the jobs nobody in the USA wants to do. The good, high paying jobs are remaining in the USA.

Venezuela’s Supreme Court ordered an immediate takeover of the country’s largest pay-television provider following the announcement by its U.S. parent company that it would close its operations in the South American nation, citing U.S. sanctions.

The country’s telecommunications regulator will take control of AT&T Inc.-owned DirecTV’s assets and infrastructure, including its office and commercial spaces as well as equipment to maintain services with the help of the armed forces, the high court said in a statement Friday.

Fiber is only available in selected neighborhoods in the 21 states, not exactly a nation wide strategy to pair with TV. Then again, Stank said we don't need low IQ customers. NY and other states, have your politicians demand the same deal from Stank.

AT&T is a failed corporation, unable to innovate, so they go out and buy things, like DTV, TW Inc, etc, hoping it sticks, Everything else is ghost projects PR and mediocrity, and a culture of borderline illegal sales practices

I helped an elderly neighbor hook up her new hdtv to the new receiver box she got from the cable company because she got rid of her old tv finally and got new hdtv. hooked it up and had to call tech support to enable the box for the account and I got an American on American soil. I got support and took us about 5 minutes to get it done and I didn't get transferred or any other bs that att deals. She still has att for her landline and told her to go with cable with phone because their voip works so much better than att. so att has been making bone headed decisions like outsource to third world countries and so this one doesn't surprise me either. Att will get what they deserve in the end and I highly recommend any new hires just run far far far far far far away you will not regret that decision.
