Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Timeline for Surplus

Lots of surplus talk. When is this expected to go down? And will all orgs happen at one time or will they happen in different phases?

I’d expect 5-10% in June for the first pass orgs. Others will be hammered over the rest of the year. Based on the $1.5b number floated, that would mean about 18-25k employees total depending on the average salary you use. I think the largest groups that will be hit will be retail stores, IHX, and call centers.

@1vlt+153VeMYT —It is not going to be 40% in June at once. This would create too much swiss cheese and so much reorganization to further stall things. It could be 40% over a few years and I would expect 10% on average in June.

You must have attended different meetings than the rest of us — it has been clearly stated the company will execute and complete the plan but EOY to reduce employee related expenses but $1.5BILLION. It is also clearly stated in the 4th quarter earnings report - exact verbiage “~$1.5B in labor savings in 2002“

I agree with you in that it seems like a lot of people in a short amount of time...but we are not in charge

Tech M is being phased out, as are many other vendors. That's the good news, the bad news is Accenture and IBM will get all this work.

Anyone heard anything about the criteria for cuts? Last round of layoffs seemed to be largely determined by location in relation to the “AT&T Hubs” or whatever they are calling them nowadays? Everyone I knew that was layed off this previous year was working from home full time or not anywhere near a collaboration zone.

I’d anticipate hearing something by the end of June. The reductions are going to be dramatic in some parts of the business.

I'm hearing 40% of my org also. I call it a Mercy K–l if they get me. Just sick of the $hithole.

But Stinky will remain.
Zucher will Remain.
The Board of MisDirectors will remain!

Chapter 11 bankruptcy to be announced June 1st this will allow the board to be able to cut wireline field operations from the company. Mobility and Warner Media will be all that’s left.

40% sounds right, lots of dead weight here. I believe alone Tech Mahindra can replace those impacted with just 10% of new contractors.

I am hearing 40% at least across the company. This is coming from my leadership. Huge announcements will come by June 1st.
