Transforming Our Business - An Update on Progress

Check your inbox. Video sent out from Stankey with him, McElfresh and the Angel of Death himself, Bill Morrow. Expecting Bill Morrow to gleefully outline the carnage headed our way.

Around minute 25, Jeff tries to outline a clear plan. Around 26:44 Stankey gets on camera and just tries to regurgitate, very poorly, what he thinks Jeff has said. Quote Stankey: "This is all tied together, can't do one without the other". Wow, leadership!!I
I say very poorly because it is so clear that John has no idea of what Jeff is talking about. He tries to compensate by gyrating his hands around like he is in a town hall or conference room, trying to look bigger. That doesn't work on a webcast, sport.
Notice how Bill had his arms folded at the beginning, that is a classic tell that one is about to own someone (Stankey).
Watch Jeff's expressions during John's know nothing response. Jeff is blinking like I would when being told a load of BS. Then, when John is done with his gymnastic performance of showing he is a big man, Jeff says, somewhat what would to appear out of place "That is fair John. We cannot cost cut our way to success". The video appears to be heavily edited after that point.
Randell, at this point is fairly inert, pay him to go away, but do not let Stankey have any part in the recovery of AT&T.

As a complete aside, for laughs, read some of the comments that people leave there on the Insider re: the video. 75% are ball lickers that no matter what these clowns say, they are there espousing their tremendous intelligence and vision. It's kind of gross and sad to think there are that many simpletons still here that in some kind of strange and delusional world think that is somehow going to help them? ?

The you have the 25% of others that actually speak some truth and say things that they probably shouldn't there. (You do realize that your name and UID is captured there...don't you??)

It's harder to leak a video to the media the way McFresh's email was leaked last year.

I watched/listened about half of the presentation by stanky/morrow/mcelfresh. It was interesting. I did not see any gloating. The least serious was mcelfresh i dont think he or stanky really give a damn about the impact to employees. It’s like they were discussing a new wine they were planning to sample, with a slight smirk on their faces. There were no empathy at all from either of them. They will see what it feels like when they experience a deep loss of a close person to them. They probably will never experience significant financial loss. Morrow was more blunt and somewhat disinterested more like an executioner who divorced himself from his duty. Morrow did not have to take this job so i have no sympathy. Bottom line is significant changes are coming, maybe not right away as it maybe too negative PR wise but expect major changes by end of year into 2021 and beyond. Bottom line get a plan B, you may need it. Good luck to all

My opinion is , there is no way on earth that any state PUC will allow T to unload copper.Period. Short of massive bribes which I think are no longer part of the immediate future . So MST , dont sweat it ! Your job is guaranteed for the next 3 years.

McSelfish talks about 11 layers. What he doesn’t say is 4 are officers that he added. How can we take him seriously.

This was the scripted practiced videotaped carefully worded version. The truth is they’ll slash the copper maintenance budget and the customer experience could suffer if we don’t have enough CST repair people. So we shall see if it’s different this time and they really want to do a great job. We all need to remember our Home internet customers carry our cell phones. We gotta take great care of them! From the non offshore trouble call to the repairman showing up same day next day. We’ve got to do it right or the young guys won’t make it.

What a lot of uninformed people on here don’t realize is that company bullied, slammed and coerced customers off a superior TDM system due to Randy, cost and non maintenance of facilities/equipment to VoIP. The Pots/DSL circuit is/was a better and more reliable circuit it didn't need a near perfect pair. I’ve had many customers tell me over the years that they’ve had their pots for decades without any issues with great clarity, my family had the same experience. DT (VoIP) & HSIA Internet is still ran over copper facilities folks and some over fiber but a lot of people that had Pots canceled too. Go to an older relatives that still has pots with an old phone set and make a call, you’ll be amazed at how much better it sounds compared to cell phones and voip. It sounds like you are talking to someone right in front of you plus they work during natural disasters due to backup systems, VoIP & HISA doesn’t.

Customers used to pay the bill without thought every month until Randy/company made an issue of it. It was a huge money maker until Randy took over and stated right from the start that Pots/DSL was old news and we needed to become a entertainment company. Now we see how that worked out. How many have been laid off, rebadged, off-shored ? Technology marches on but why k–l a tax-paid former monopoly system before its time and was still paying huge sums of revenue. Who cares how old the technology is if customers aren’t complaining and paying Billions of dollars a year. Cut your nose off in spite of your face seems to apply here. Randy’s dream has devastated a lot of people’s lives. Most companies or countries any where in the world would have been more than satisfied to have the (old TDM) revenues. How many of you feel secure in your job today, even before the COVID-19 ? We used to never worry about it until Randy the Ego/Dreamer came along because even if there was movement or surplus there was always somewhere else to land in the company without much disruption.

Yes! It’s was transformative all right, big THANKS! to Randy and the gang for the decline of a once great company. It’s became a top down micromanaged, big data, CZ MESS, the customer is an after thought. Sycophants, bonuses and nepotism rules. I wouldn't recommend working here anymore PERIOD

Whenever I hear these losers talk about "tough decisions " I laugh. These decisions are never hard for the sociopaths that s— down .5 to 30 million a year to make bad decisions. Who do these guys think they are fooling?

Aren’t there still a ton of customers on DSL using the copper? Everyone talks about it going away....but from someone who is in IT, my thought is it is not going away. You heard Jeff say there is only about a 30% saturation of fiber subscribers. This means the rest are using another service (somewhat unlikely) but more reasonable to think it is a combo of people using another service and copper. Sound reasonable or am I way off?

Lol, comment below a sounds like they are referring East Texas.

Cable projects like crazy, low customer base.

Exactly how much work is customer driven and how much work is employee driven?

How can you repair so much cable and still have repair issues in the same count? I guess no one is paying attention. And how can you repair a Cable issue and then work 7 single tickets in the same count?

“Trouble is past my splice” translation

Job security
I caused more trouble than I repaired.

Welcome back lean and six sigma, haha. Where the whole company is headcount driven, there is absolutely no incentive for resource efficiency. What take place is turf wars and huge roles and responsibility matrix, everyone wants their hand in the cookie jar. There is no organic internal movement, the few that actually happens required high level of greasing the wheels between 2 or more managers. Hey, I'm perfectly willing to give up my current job to automated process so I can move onto a better job. Is there an viable avenue for that to happen, no way in hell. These top down initiatives will be sabotaged in every layer of management for their self interest and preservation.

“I guess the only products that matter now are fiber and wireless?”

They are the only only products that make a return on investment. Paying the techs that work in the middle of nowhere maintaining a copper plant is not cost effective. You can’t make enough on the 23 POTS/DSL lines to cover the maintenance on the infrastructure let alone the salary and benefits for the employees.

The last few years spent by I/R creating BPCs to look busy was all just expense. You can’t spend a million dollars in maintenance costs and payroll to provide a service that doesn’t make that money back.

You know it can’t last when the techs who support POTS don’t even have landline service at their house, but you can bet they have a cell phone.

T didn't get to there things today overnight, years and years to soul crushing and business destructive practices by the "leaders" cohort. Good people and good ideas left more greener pastures. What Bill Morrow said isn't any big surprise. Stank and McFresh keep dancing around they are on board to change... blah blah blah. Sure, layoff can continue, but that has nothing to do with winning back customers. Nothing significant will change unless actual transformation takes place, don't hold you breathe.

That Computerworld article is from December 10th, 2019, a whole world away from our current COVIFED up reality.

AT&T is more likely to hold onto employees until it sees how many of us die, and to get the federal money that requires no domestic layoffs. If you were scheduled for layoff, expect great new opportunities in the growing field of mask-related employment!

Good luck, folks in Bangalore, and the Czech Republic, who are not going to be covered by the no-U.S.-layoff restrictions on receiving federal bailout money to hep redecorate Randy's office.

I chuckled when Stankey described his relationship with Bill and went on to say he brought him as an outsider in to get an unbiased opinion on this place. Who is he kidding, Elliott told these jokers Bill will evaluate this place to uncover why it is underperforming and you will implement his suggestions.

Morrow would have “full authority to examine and change our cost structure across the entire company,” the AT&T CEO said.

Stephenson told the call that the initiative led by Morrow would be “above and beyond” what AT&T was “already doing with network virtualization, real estate consolidation and our other ongoing cost-reduction initiatives.”

"Flatter, Leaner". I am glad McElfresh specifically called out the 11 layers between he and the customer. What do you want to bet the bulk of management layoffs will still be in L2? Then they will stand around and wonder why no work can get done.
