Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Is it too early to call AT&T TV an unmitigated disaster?

And with that, the whole Warner Media deal?

It was a disaster well before it launched. Two-year contract with a one-year price lock, on a streaming service, in 2020. Doesn’t even have NFL Network on it. It’s wayyyyyy cheaper to go to the Disney/Hulu/ESPN bundle. Want locals? Buy an HD antenna for $40 and you’re set.

I work on the AT&T TV app and yeah, it needs a lot of work but I wouldn't call it a disaster. The main issue is the hiring of all the Indians who don't know what they're doing. Some of them are capable but most are not.

Another issue is upper management wanting one set of features, then changing their mind and wanting something else. Senior devs are solid but there are literally teams of Indian nationals who sit around and do nothing important. Pet projects for associate directors to show they're doing billable work but not actually contributing to the app's progress.

It is what happens when a non-tech company pretends to be a tech company.

It’s a disaster. I’ve seen the numbers. However, those of us under a level 3 just don’t get that it’s not about the performance, but all about doing something different. The new shiny object. That’s all that matters to the top. Want to move up? Just pitch some new shiny object. Doesn’t matter if it works or not. Seems to be the case from where I sit. All a bunch of garbage.

I am still wondering with the whole "self-install" concept behind the AT&T TV Osprey box, why am I not seeing a massive ad campaign touting this service.

Play up the fact that as a DIY service, that no Covid spewing Prem Tech has to come to your house.

Safe and without fear - just what your confined family deserves as Americans.

You connect to your router, enter your ID and password, and Shazam - the world of AT&T TV is yours!

A product and service that gives your pathetic stuck at home self the first sense of reward and achievement in a time of fear and helplessness and it didn't have to come from Amazon?

We should be on this sales opportunity like flies on dog doo.

C'mon Marketing - you have the gift of a pandemic to exploit here and all I hear are crickets.

The movie business is CHECK MATE:
currently in limbo
lack of live sports programming including the cancellation of March Madness.
weak ad market due to depressed consumer spending.

The Chairman will bail at the end of the year with $200 million, and leave it all to Stankey and the Board of Directors!! The company will eventually be broken up and the dividend cut!!!

I'd personally say it was clear from day one, but some needed convincing.
