Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Massive Furloughs on deck

I have been on many leadership calls over the last several days and can tell you yesterday tone was much different. Furloughs will be here by end of month and will impact a huge portion of AT&T. Every org will see massive furloughs and senior exec will see their salary slashed.
As Randall recently stated, we will be right sizing our Corp to adjust to new economic pressure/environment.
There will be no ( bad )PR as times in the past as we are just one of thousands that have had to furlough employees. It will allow ATT to lay-off hundreds of thousands and I’m sure there will be some clause they will exploit to not have to pay any severance. AT&T and their legal/HR team are holding pocket A’s right now and we all are just getting played.
Watch and see. I’m thinking soon after the Easter holiday. What do you think community?

"Leadership calls" are just the same BS calls all of us get emails about "requesting" that we attend.

They are always so vaguely worded that it's clear that their purpose is for leadership to stand up in front of a group of particularly sycophantic employees and pontificate, without actually saying anything real, because they don't know anything real. You are welcome to read the tea leaves of these sessions however you wish, because they are meaningless in terms of what you can actually expect.

Like how that same leadership continued to require us to come in despite repeated begging from those who could telecommute to be allowed to do so, but is now repeatedly emailing us their "expert" advice on exactly how we should all work from home, as though they invented the idea.

It is their job to pontificate and order us to do what we're already doing better without them. Without pontificating as though it is needed, it'd be ridiculously obvious to their own bosses who really needs to be laid off first.

Not the OP, but you don’t have to be a VP or other management position to be in those leadership meetings. Our center has plenty of regular reps and union stewards in those meetings.

Wouldn't you have to be a VP or Director to be on these "leadership calls?"

OK most are confused. There is a difference between furlough and layoff. In most instances furlough is temporary. People are sent home without pay however they remain employees and benefits continue. Layoffs are removal from payroll. AT&T will continue to remove people from payroll, as they complete the 2020 plan. I see no reason to furlough anyone. Most are essential employee's. OP is a troll.

AT&T only only ~250k employees, so "hundreds of thousands of layoffs" would literally be the entire workforce.

While I don’t believe that furloughs would be in the hundreds of thousands, it’s absolutely logical that a company like AT&T would furlough thousands in order to save a dime. If you’ve been with the company long enough, you know how to read between the lines whenever Randy or any of the other bafoons talk and, as far as I’m concerned, the company is definitely going to lay-off and furlough thousands. Why? Well, it gives the company the best opportunity to reduce the red in the books while reducing the headcount overhead that they’ve been looking to do for years. At the same time, Randy can blame it all on the virus which allows the bad PR to be minimized. Personally, I believe most cuts would be layoffs instead of furloughs. I don’t like anything this company does in regards to employees, but the writing has been on the wall for years. My only advise, brace yourselves and be prepared. Fortune 500 companies no longer value loyalty and don’t give it either. Bottom line is the only importance.

This just in: THIS POST IS COMPLETELY MADE UP.

OP states he/she was on "many" leadership calls discussing "furloughs" (not really a "thing" here), across all organizations.

"Hundreds of thousands" . Ridiculous.

Then, the OP with inside knowledge closes by asking what we think.

I think you are bored. Find something to do.

Hundreds of thousands? Just another non-credible DRAMA post.

Furlough and lay-off are. Two different things. There would be no severance for a furlough. A furlough is temporary.

Bad PR in the past? They have done previous cuts in small amounts, very little bad press in the past.

Hundreds of thousands? That is the entire workforce.

Why am I wasting my time responding to this post?

While I agree with some of your statement, I don’t think EVERY unit will be impacted. I work in Chow business unit and know they need us (sellers) because we bring a lot of revenue to the company.
Just my .2 cents
