Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

when and how much do you think our SALARY CUT will be?

a little birdie told me one of ideas being floated around is a 3-10% salary cut in the coming months to help alleviate the balance sheet woes? Will be phrased as "were all in this together" to help us get through this pandemic ,any one else heard this and how big do you think it will be?

To the person asking what the managers bonus was, she wasnt saying her "bonus" was being cut by 12k. She said her BASE PAY, as in salary or hourly, is being cut by 12k. Can confirm that this the case, raised the at risk commission by the same amount so that the take home pay after taxes is significantly less. Sad to have some ASM's (who put in way more hours than any other job in retail) make less than some newhire frontline sales reps.

The entertainment side of the business is in trouble, because folks there cannot get close enough physically to create new content. But the company itself has a large back catalog that is seeing renewed life due to marathon streaming (though a fair amount of the actual streaming will be via places more like Hulu than our own wireline and streaming properties).

The telco side of the business is seeing 4X network utilization from the telecommuting and Netflix-and-chill usage, so seems less likely to be the focus of any upcoming round of layoffs, especially with prem techs and retail store workers set to start dying like flies, which is nature's way of laying off AT&T employees. :(

But if you're a key grip on some Warnermedia production, we can't exactly use you right now, so, Randy isn't going to lose any sleep over your unemployment.

Much easier to furlough versus pay cut. Furlough fits into the long term plan to reduce staff. Once things settle down, and the economy proves to slowly recover, they will likely let some amount of those furloughed people go, as in a layoff.

paycut is not in there paycut. once raises were deferred but too late in the year for that. contractor layoff, followed by surplus and more outsourcing when the climate is right...rinse.. repeat

Before a paycut I see two alternatives 1. stop the dividend 2. stop the front-line bonus

In Retail (don’t start..I know most people don’t like us), management (L1) are getting our base pay cut by $12,000 starting June 1. They announced this in February, saying we will “ make it up in commission”. Ya OK. One thing I never want to lose is my base pay, especially after 11 years of service. And I’m not some desk or office manager, I work hard, not shady or unethical, I earned my pay from years of hard work. I definitely applaud the techs who have to go into people’s houses, you guys deserve a raise not any paycut or lay-off. Who knows what will happen these days, with the job market how it currently is, I guess I’m grateful to have a job, much as I don’t like retail myself. Stay safe out there.

salary cuts won't be the answer. you have employees with 20-40 years of exp making $120k and not doing much. these people are goners and the business won't skip a beat, since there's barely any work happening anyway

Not cutting my pay to save anyone's job.
I earned this.
I worked decades so I no longer have to worry about being laid off.
Sorry, but your lack of job security is not my issue to solve.
I fought the same issues, no one helped me.
And, if you make it, in 20 years we'll see how willing you are to take a pay cut to save a new hire.
Hate away, but that's not how any of this works-and exactly why the company thinks they can treat you like dog sausages.

"We have had our salaries cut before. We were forced to take unpaid time in 2001. That is likely how they will do it this time as well.".

Been here since 1994 (Mobility though). This has never happened to us.

makes sense - I always thought they should do that instead of laying people off. because the work did not go away the people were doing they just moved it to a new hire or outsourced it.

We have had our salaries cut before. We were forced to take unpaid time in 2001. That is likely how they will do it this time as well. They also told us then that they would take care of us once times were good again. Never happened but that is typically how we are treated so we are use to it now.

Never, they will not cut the salaries of anyone. The company has never done such a thing in the past while living through very tough times. No reason to start now. IF they were to reduce anyone salaries, those with cut salaries, namely the IT/ IT- like manager, will leave and go work elsewhere for more money. Cutting salaries will cut their nose off despite their face and will cause far more damage and they know this. Aside from the false notion of cutting salaries, COVID19 is now subsiding, and a soft start is about to begin. the markets are already rebounding, we're close to climbing out of this, it makes no sense to try and hoodwink employees on their pay like this, hence, the OP is a BS poster trying to create hysteria.

One thing is for sure, Ratty and Stinky will NOT be cutting their salaries. And even Ratty or Stinky did they did, the bonuses and stock dividends will still let pull down is more per year that and of us grunt make in a lifetime.

Don’t you love how they are using the pandemic and everyone knows it isn’t due to Covid19.
