Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Why are some people worried about layoffs?

Other than store employees, everybody else is essential. So why add more worry when there are already more than enough things to stress over?

The business may be classified as essential but in no way does that mean ALL employees are essential to keep the biz running. Remember, those folks that were notified they were surprised in Jan were extended.
Though it is hard to believe T postponed it out of sympathy, I think it was more for that reason than the reason those folks were essential. I suspect they are at the top of the list when they resume cuts.

Some have mentioned the bailout that T is getting – the 5.5B loan is not part of the bail out. They have to pay that back by the end of the year they are not required to keep anyone as a result of taking this loan.

Original post says: "Other than store employees, everybody else is essential."

Especially the myriad of "Citzenship and Sustainability" and "Diversity and Inclusion" Levels 2 thru 5 that have been hired over the last 5 years or so. They are indispensable. At least until the fallout starts as a result of the T-Mobile resurgence. I hope you don't need the sarc tag to get it.

At MR 75 as of last year, I stopped being "worried" about being laid off some time ago. Control the controllable. When it happens, it happens. I'll keep collecting and cashing the checks in the meantime.

Just heard some US contract workers have been notified their work is going to Slovakia, sometime in May.

The good news is they will take Federal Relief money, so that means no layoffs until at least January 2021, but don't relax too much, Rumor is the layoffs at beginning of 2021 will be massive, so enjoy being employed for 2020, but who knows after that!

Are you kidding? Where have you been for the last 5 years of Ratty and Stinky's (and JD's) reign of terror? All the BS with geo-location, lack of collaboration zones, plain old whackings, and rebadging has tortured the employee base. We all have the sinking feeling that once this virus crisis is over and Ratty is safe from the restrictions of the federal $, he will continue with the whacking and such.

It will take a long time for the memory of their BS cr@p from fading from the employee collective. If there are any employees left!
