Help!!!! SE Tech just disciplined for attendance

Hey guys! Need some help here. My manager hit me with a counseling entry as soon as I walked in the door this morning. No priors, but I called in sick last Monday and didn’t come back until today. I’m not married and I wasn’t really sick. I’m just really concerned about getting sick with this COVID-19 thing. I’m worried to death because I’ve never been in any trouble before. Hope I’m not in big trouble with a target on my back now. What can I do?

Sounds like you were a prince of a manager, a legend in your own mind. If you haven’t figured it out, they didn’t respect you, ever look in the mirror and ask, Why? Your vitriol is showing, wishing bad intentions because your feelings were hurt. Grow a set, Snowflake.

The micromanaged techs were working while, you were on the same useless conference calls talking about the same stuff everyday and nothing get changed. Then deciding where you and your peers were going to lunch, afternoon 2 pm call then, home early before techs came back to yard.

Kind of hard for techs to organize & be supply room attendants when they are beat down about gate and dispatch times. Unless exception time is approved, techs don’t have time and you know it. By your admission, the mountain of supplies just sat there I thought managers were the self starters and go getters. The question is then, what were you doing? Not leading by example. Bet you were promoted, you’re the kind of inhumane bootlickers yes folks that techs have now as 2nd level and directors. Not all but it seems a majority

Shaddup and get to work union boys and girls!! Sorry you can’t just sit at the work center “restocking” your trucks and storerooms or sit at X-Box’s rerunning jumpers every day. BTW, because I know I’ll get some snarky responses to this one, when I was a field manager for several years, I never could get my techs to help me stock the storerooms...Ever. They would let it sit at the front door and walk right past storeroom supplies for eternity (including some things that were shipped directly to them with their names on them). When all of it started getting dropped off just 20ft from the storeroom door, they continued to do the same. They would wait until they were completely out of something and then roadblock me no matter what I was doing (usually while dispatched, just to piss me off) about needing supplies. Naturally, they didn’t really try very hard to look in the storeroom or at the chest level mountain of supplies that had been delivered and were sitting 50ft from their desks before blowing my door down. Same goes for their vehicles. Very few would actually keep them organized and stocked properly for efficiency. And you guessed it, every time I would ask someone to clean it up, they would bitcch and moan about how the company didn’t give them time to do it. I thought that was interesting as they always came back to the office 30min to an hour before quitting time and instead of stocking/ organizing their vehicles or the storeroom (s), they would just sit around and fug off till it was time to go home. Same with their workspaces and desks. Disorganized and trash everywhere like they could care less. Same excuses on that front as well. Doesn’t hurt my feelings one bit to see you union folks squirming a bit now.

Nope, you are wrong. We want to work just not BAU, every inside trouble/install is Russian Roulette. Work the install or repair to the NID then, assist CX via cell or at distance. At worse, leave a new IW to reach inside door, window etc.. with the appropriate equipment or jack (temp it). Company can have a code on close that when CX calls back at end of crisis we dispatch and complete. There is also maintenance work

Desperate times calls for desperate measures. What’s more important than lives? Both the employee and customer.

You have the ability to take unpaid leave or quit. It seems what you all really want is for AT&T to pay you to stay home until virus is gone which could be months-years-potentially never. This is an asinine thought process. Do what you can to protect yourself and pray that “when” you get the virus you will recover. Sticking your head in the sand is not a solution. Ps- I am bargained for tech working in field 5-6 days a week just like a lot of you.

All you guys are ridiculous! I know 2 people who have died from this virus.. and one showed no symptoms. A job is not worth your life. You slave for this company that could care less about us going in these germ infected homes and dropping dead. I’m not saying everyone call off and leave but at the same time don’t judge those who do want to leave for a while.

Don’t worry about it. Just be on time. It’s game time, play the game. Do all you’re supposed to do. Safety checks, coverages, restock, throw garbage. Test all required PPE as expected. By the time you leave the yard, you’re down 1 hr at least. Document everything. Make him do his job. Minimize interaction. Only answer questions with necessary answers. Keep it brief, don’t divulge more than necessary. If you have questions make him provide answers. Make him do his job. Don’t be easy. Don’t run scared. Anytime he asks to speak with you, ask if you need a Steward. If in doubt, ask for a Steward. Tell the Union your Boss is unjustly targeting you. He’ll leave you alone. Just be good at what you do.

As a union represented tech in my opinion you deserve the b form. As many unjust things managers do to techs this one is rightly earned. Many outside techs are dealing with an difficult situation and putting ourselves in potential danger everyday. You calling out because you were scared caused some other tech to pick up your work, it didn’t just disappear because you called out.

Call your union rep dude. Attendance counts towards your managers bonus. They’ll always discipline for illf time because of that. Fight it. Or be a pu–y...

Union behavior? Shocking!

My supervisor told me that I had the option of coding unpaid time instead of ILLF (MUEO or something like that) and that would have prevented the entry this time. Does this mean that I wouldn’t have been paid for those days that I was out??

Do it 6 more times and get fired and the union will DEFINITELY get your job back......

You’ll get away with it they won’t do a thing. You shouldn’t have done that though. Your back at work and it gained you nothing anyway.

I received a “B-Form”. My supervisor told me it was an official entry and would be going in my record. It also said that “this continued behavior” could lead to further discipline and termination. Is this right? This sounds serious.....

Disipline rightly so to an extent, Called in sick without being sick, admitting to it.. Except Im a tech and Im on your side. So dont falsify. If you were "worried sick" to call in sick, there are other means.. Possibly paid stress leave if the Covid time off doesnt apply to you. Dont falsify but if you need time off do it the right way. Dont worry about a verbal start talking to your union so your familiar with the process of discipline.

Your sick your sick this is only one occurrence should have taken 3-5 days instead of one. I’d call your union rep and stick to your story you didn’t fell good you don’t have to explain. Anytime managers try to question you it’s your Wright to union representation and you should use it. Don’t say anything until they are present

I’m hesitant to say on this public forum. I’m pretty sure retaliation would be quick to follow if anyone local found out.
