Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

All Hands Meeting Today - Layoffs still on the table

All Hands Meeting today. Layoff question came up and we were told Management has not been told layoffs are on hold. Seems the media is not correct in stating Wells is following other banks doing the right thing.

The AGILE project needs to be sc-apped, it takes weeks to get approvals and other c-ap. Who can follow the release calendar with a 2 week sprint?

I dunno - my manager hinted that WFH battle would most likely be going away, once all this clears. It's a battle they can't win and keep the bank running.

@8seq+14gNuDdt – I think the VPN tracking is ridiculous. Most of us can't say logged on for a full shift, are encouraged not to use Skype, and encouraged to log off Skype if we don't have meetings.

Not to mention the need to download documents for reviews and updates while offline so that we can actually get work done.

Punching a clock would more effectively track us, why don't we go back to doing that?

it's like the old days of having your programming manager walking around, looking at your screen, checking up on you ever hour to ensure you were working. it was demeaning then and it still is now.

Here is some info discussed in a meeting the other day.

It was indeed Saul who was putting pressure on managers to get people into offices and not working from home. The recent corona virus made him do an abrupt 180. The plans to get people back into the office have definitely been slowed down. Senior management is "not happy" about that, and will resume reductions of WFH "when we can".

A new tidbit: they are now "pulling data from card readers and VPN logs" to see exactly which employees are working from where, and exactly when they are working. This was discussed in the context of enforcing a "3 days in the office every week" mandate for some people. Personally I am surprised they were not already doing this. The way they were talking about it, you would think it was a new idea.

This is hilarious... Here Saul comes in and says how telecommuting is hurting productivity... Now, because of COVID, the entire firm is telecommuting.

Hey Saul, are you still going to sit there and tell us telecommuting is hurting productivity or are we all doing our jobs?

I’m taking any stoppage in layoffs as a time to continue looking for a job. Not a great time to switch companies but any future with Wells is cloudy.

Well of course they are not going to promise no more layoffs. Layoffs were in the works before the Pandemic, and they will be in the works when it dies down. Wells doesn't want to be seen as laying people off in the midst of the crisis. Nobody does. But it's still Wells.

And if people start defaulting on mortgages, and they will ..... all the lenders will be screwed, not just Wells.

I hope this shows that WFH is an essential.
Banks need to stop listening to consultant companies. They have sold Location Strategies to most banks. People need to be spread out to effectively run a business the size of WF. Leaders need to lead and pull their heads out of the sand.

Well this corona thing really puts a damper on Sauls location strategy now doesn’t it
