How long until AT&T starts laying people off or furloughing people?

Management is trying to figure out ways to drive people to the store in NY. They are calling Bussiness customers and trying to get them to do online orders and pick them up in store. Today managers were told to think of ways that can drive traffic to the store. I kid you not. this is NYC AREA....WHERE PEOPLE ARE SUPPOSED TO STAY HOME.
Half the employees have been on paid furlough. The have just been showing up and getting paid for years. Stay safe !
They are clearly avoiding layoffs for now, intentionally. All eyes are on the big companies that are beholden to the Fed in one way or another. Randy and other telecom CEO's were on a call with Trump just yesterday. They are being receiving accolades and being celebrated for keeping America connected during this crisis. Those of you that think they don't care about optics, and PR are mistaken.
A large scale layoff right now would be an extremely bad look, especially when you have hat in hand grovelling for 5 billion. We're on an opposite curve from most, as soon as things start to turn around when the virus is under control somewhat, and the economy is recovering, things on the surplus front will start moving again.
Or perhaps forcing management to take their Vacation time
I will be surprised if they temporarily suspend 401K matching, pension comtribution, and other things too save the company
Perhaps they would do something like GM did and cut pay by 20% with it being repaid next year.
Has anyone heard if there are talks about management that isn’t on the front line being furloughed during this crisis?
If you are not doing work, why are you being paid?
4-6 weeks if not already being discussed at L3 and above.
If they take the $5 billion they lobbied the government for during the stimulus debacle then they have to employ 90% of their staff until September 30, 2020. We all know that the remaining 10% is still a lot of people so I expect for them to not lay-off any large numbers until after or it would be a PR nightmare.
Unique choice of words......Management or union?? Management = Haven’t heard a single work uttered in this regard. Union = No way unless the temp LOA is voluntary by the employee.
We are all essential now
just wait till the quarter after the date they agreed to in the bailout scam.
They have taken too much government money. Why do you think they called off the current management surpluses. Hard to justify giving upper management big raises, doing stock buybacks until just now. They don’t want another company black eye like they got with a recent expose’ on Tucker Carlson.
Hope they furlough those dispatching techs on non essential jobs until the medical professionals get this under control.
