Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Cold calls

They are having every rep in the NYC area doing 15 cold calls per day Which I absolutely hate. This is all so the company can make money and prevent stores from closing? Any comments to what’s going on at AT&T?

Cold calls?? Give me a break. Cold calls are the Small Business Reps job, or the assistant managers job, not an RSCs task.

I'm curious to know if those saying 15 calls are nothing work in retail? Every time we do these calls we just get hung up on and have to report back that we got hung up on. Every now and then there's a lead that we then have to pass to our BAE and we never hear back from it. Such is the life in sales.

This is all AT&T’s union is good for... protecting sales reps from having to pick up the phone and sell. Meanwhile they turn a blind eye on surpluses and store closures that might have been prevented had the sales reps actually been selling.

There are people in this company facing surpluses who have 20 or 30 years in that work 50 hours+ a week and get paid less and less and this guy or gal is complaining about chipping in to make 15 calls. It comes across to me really petty.

People who only do what they are required to do are lousy employees and you get what you deserve. I don’t pay attention to silly complaints like making 15 calls.

Yeah and those who are a PIA and fight it won’t be doing themselves any favors. Just do the calls and quit trying to fight and win a battle that puts a target on you.

As an RSC in the Dallas area, I know we've already fought this before. We had an area meeting where we were told the same thing a few years ago, and our Union rep interrupted our ARSM and let us all know we don't have to make those calls because it isn't in our job description.

For those saying good sales people make 15 calls in the first hour, yeahhhh that's not how retail sales work. Our job is to help the customers that come in. We have business reps that go out to companies. My store has 5 reps, meaning we usually run with 3 reps per day. It is very difficult to help a swarm of people if we're also supposed to be calling businesses.

Right what they should do is send you home for lack of work to do instead of trying to find ways to make money. That way you can join the 34 million other Americans out of a job right now. It is 15 calls. Just do them and maybe you will make some sales — maybe you won’t. But there is nothing to lose.

It isn’t illegal to call homes as long as they are not on do not call lists and called before 9pm under FTC rules (earlier in some states). It may be subject to policy restrictions but it is not illegal.

UP tool screens out DNC lists. And IHX makes calls to homes and has a DNC tool to screen those.

Who are you cold calling?

Homes or businesses?

There are several articles / policies on MyCSP stating its actually illegal for RSCs to cold call homes.

Furthermore you can only cold call businesses if they're not listed under the DNC (do not call) list, and you can only call them until 5PM your local time.

I'm wondering if the original poster, or most of the people complaining on these forums don't do their due diligence before pointlessly complaining.

I'm assuming the poster is an RSC. A union protected position currently.

If you're actually being made to do something against policy, get your union rep involved, HR, or AP. Even if its just to ask them if what you're being asked to do is legal / policy. If the answer is yes, make them show you in writing the policy. They are required to by law.

Afraid of being retaliated against? Why? You are legally protected against retaliation. You should BE SO LUCKY to be retaliated against. Hope and PRAY they retaliate against you and sue the ever living you know what out of AT&T and you can live out your days getting paid to do absolutely nothing ever again.

People need to develop a backbone in the company. Exercise your rights people.

Desperate times = Desperate measures

Pretty bad though calling people during a pandemic lockdown at least they know they will be home. Just more att innovation.
