Excuse my ignorance but when they say IT is going to get hit with layoffs, who are they talking about? What systems are going to be retired?

Hint: Indian workers won't likely be impacted.
We have about 1,200,347,331 different systems and billing systems, by my estimation. What's the solution? Get rid of those pesky IT people! And...many of the systems. What could go wrong? "Sorry Mr. Customer, I just can't help you, because, well, it's just not possible. I'd call someone, but, they can't help either, and I'll be on hold for 3 hours, and then get hung up on. Would you like to get HBO Max instead so you can stream content while you wait on hold?"

Some systems will be consolidated or retired (rationalized). Most are supported by vendors.
IT is Information Technology, formally Tech Dev, now CDIO (Chief Info and Data Officer). Most computer systems are here from billing to compensation to collections to internal systems. I'm guessing that 30% of the workers are emps and 70% are contractors.
Systems won't go away, they will get outsourced, the only thing going away is employees
they're going to fire all of the worker bees and the managers will just sit around and have conference calls all day long talking about how their productivity has increased dramatically and give themselves bigger bonuses.
