According to emails from HR, I'm now "retirement eligible". When they add my age plus my years of service it meets their threshold.
I've maxed my 401k since day one, and now it is enough money that I could live off it forever. The problem is I'm not yet old enough where I can actually touch my 401k. But if I were to get laid off AND get a severance, I could live off the severance until I reach the age where I can get to my 401k money.
How do I make sure that my name gets included in "the list" for next round of layoffs? Does being "retirement eligible" automatically put me on the list for the next round of layoffs?
I would feel terrible if there was another round of layoffs and some other person who truly NEEDED their job got laid off and I didn't. I would be happy to be eased out the door now, knowing that perhaps somebody who needed that job to feed their family got to keep it.
All I want is the normal severance that they have always given in the past - 2 weeks of pay for every year of service. That will hold me over until I'm old enough to get my 401k money.
