Mair used the word transformation at least 5 times in the first 2 minutes so you know it will be a bloodbath.

"There will be no 6 month period to find another job within the company".
I believe this 100%. There is no reason to keep folks on payroll for an additional length of time under the farce of trying to find another job which does not exist. (Though historically it is 60 days- 6 months is incorrect).
…" instead of just saying layoffs are coming in the next couple months so be prepared."....
Um, that's kind of exactly what they just did.
Unfortunately, I don't know many specifics. I don't work at AT&T, but I just had a convo with a higher up talking about cuts. It's mainly management cuts. Multiple areas of the company but it sounded like anything IT and products would be hit the hardest. That's all I know for now, but I will comment again if I hear more. Just wanted to find a way to give some people a heads up since I think it's messed up that companies just treat lower level employees like sitting ducks instead of just saying layoffs are coming in the next couple months so be prepared.
What if any IT is left these days and has not been outsourced? 40% of what? Will this include Labs etc?
Layoffs will be around 40% for most areas in IT. Announcement coming around June 13. There will be no 6 month period to find another job within the company.
Scott used up 30 mins of valuable Q&A time by rambling on. He could condensed It and got the point across in about 10 mins. There is no way the Covid questions they claim were submitted were what the employees wanted to hear. Once again, short on time but we will get back to you about the unawares questions. It NEVER happens!!!! Let me suggest that they be transparent about the questions submitted. For those that attend the occasional Covid open mic that Chris hosts, everyone is able to see the submitted questions and employees can give them a thumbs up to rank them So they rise to the tip them of the list. Great idea.
Love the comments on the townhall last week about not spreading the peanut butter evenly. Giddy up let’s get on with it and purge these employees so eventually can say look what we accomplished and find a new bandwagon to sell PR to the investment community to buy more time for stock and deferred compensation to mature. Wireline and TDM technologies will go the way of Uverse and these areas will be decimated along with IT/Engineering now that capital pull back is taking place from Finance. These older technologies yes do still pull some revenue however, they are no longer worth the overhead to maintain has become too high thus accelerated plans and filings taking place with regulatory bodies where necessary for end of life. Fiber, Mobility, Media will be focus for continued sustainment but even there capital spent sparingly. 5G and mmWave already well underway. Sales stores were evaluated based on production, population, and push to online fulfillment and agent business with less salary and overhead. End of day a lot of corporate reduction and real estate will be cleared. Coronavirus has only allowed for a reason for the plan to accelerate. Randy says Xiexie Wuhan!
$1.5B in labor reduction as others stated correctly 15K workers at $100k average salary with benefits is for this year. The target is the older workers that are on pension plans of years past who make $100k+ which are typically 50+. Ask anyone of them and they will go on and on about their pride of how much tenure and what they did yesterday as if they are now entitled. Now ask them who would hire them with their skills and pay now. These people have no skills but click a ticket in a system and blame someone else further down the assembly line of endless groups quoting SLAs and excuses. Yes, this is a result of leadership that created this structure over time but was necessary to create clarity in defined boxes of definition so universes (ponds) can be legally fished from for reduction at the AVP level and below. Face the facts it has been a good ride and people know if they could get the salary for the little effort and skills they have they would have left already. Who in their right mind at 62+ would still be working unless they have to at AT&T? Instead after 30+ years of sitting in a clerical job and calling themselves an “engineer” they have managed to generate a large income but now their kids and grandkids are dependent on them and ask themselves what I will do without the hand that feeds me (AT&T).
As the song says “…Blow me, You don't know me, you're too old, let it go its over”
Need to do cost savings to the tune of $6 bn in 3 years.
transformation = termination
This call was worthless. Nothing new that we didn't hear last week. I think I can see the first two layers that need to be cut and no one would notice.
This is to say that they have been transparent. Then in the next eNPS scores, the employees can’t beat them up over transparency. They will still get horrible scores and they will go back into their home offices scratching their heads because they still don’t get it.
original poster nailed the cliff notes version, nice job
the Liquidity Trap Has Spread to Emerging Markets, and soon will spread to US corporations.
T will be one of them, specially due to their level of deb.
Cutting of the Q&A and screening out any layoff questions is a bit cowardly. It is impossible to believe nobody asked about layoffs.
However, I do give them credit for holding the call live, unlike McElfresh's call last week.
the Q&A portions of these meetings keep getting shorter and shorter
Marachel eating a lot of crow talking about the effectiveness of working from home.
why do these people have such terrible network connections? Knight sounds terrible
Jedi mind trick, you are really important to the company's success, be prepared to go on your last mission to the unemployment office.
so they did not use innovation, pivot, rationalizations?, bka bka bla... after a cheese quesadilla an instant t–dMAX transformation right before my eyes, Lmao
The paradox of pleading for everyone to help contribute and focus, while at the same time telling them they are likely to lose their job never gets old.
What they say: lots of buzz words. What they mean: we are clueless.
Maybe if we had spent more money over the last 10 years putting fiber in the ground, and not just for the big agenda 21 slave metropolis cities, there wouldnt be so many customers on dial up that Mair speaks of.
"Wholistic appoach"
"External data"
"Benchmarking"
The buzzwords are just bizz buzzing by the second d!
and here comes the Six Sigma/ Lean push again...get your yellow and black belts out of the closet
"IT is going to be key focus area" ouch
At least it's live, and not pre-recorded...and live from his dark-wood-paneled home office with oil paintings or tasteful sketches in the back.
Yep
