Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Somebody please explain the logic of this to me

The latest we've heard is that by June 1, we'll reach 3,000 deaths a day. Meaning the number will continue to climb. Meaning we are nowhere near the end of the pandemic. And yet AT&T is behaving like this is it, the crisis is over and we no longer have to receive hazard pay. What am I missing here?

I truly feel for anyone who has lost someone from this, and that person will always have a different perspective than someone who hasn't.

I'm of the opinion that people need to start to get back to work. 30 million unemployed and climbing if I recall correctly doesn't help anyone. If it spreads as easily as it appears (it's still spreading despite all this), it's probably just a matter of time anyway, and hiding in our homes isn't going to help.

If people feel that it's no big deal to be out of work, then resign and put yourself out of work and your safety problem is solved. I only mean that in a way that if you are truly fearful of your safety, then there is no choice but to do so. There just isn't going to be a time anywhere in the near future where the risk goes away.

We can get back to work, take precautions, and go forward somewhere in the middle of where life was and where we are now.

The union in Mississippi needs an enema because they are full of it the state level reps need to be ran out while the rest of them snitch on other employees to managers lay them all off Mr. John Stankey and if you can cut the 2nd levels managers as well they do nothing but cost us money we only need a few inspectors for quality and safety checks thrash them all that is a few million in savings per year

It's possible there will be some deaths because you won't be locked into an apartment or house or whatever it is.

1zzj.... “As an MST , I really resent being forced to go into peoples homes on the pretext that iam a essential worker ! When in reality all Iam doing is providing an upgrade, to the subscribers existing internet service . Crawling on a strangers floor to provide faster internet speed is NOT essential !!! I resent the daily email propaganda telling us how wonderful we are, risking our lives for ATT management ! I wish our Union would WAKE UP before some of us die !”

It kind of sounds like what you are really upset about is going into peoples homes period. If I was a “Maintenance Splicing Technician”, I would probably be a little put out as well, but that is what it is unfortunately. I’m sure it says somewhere in your job brief (job description/responsibilities agreed upon by the union and company per title) at HROneStop (under non-management in the careers section) that this work falls into your wheelhouse. Maybe you should start looking for other career opportunities where direct customer facing contact is not a mandatory part of the job. Best wishes and good luck!

I do agree with a lot that has been posted here; however, there is one good thing here to consider.

If the spread and contraction of the Virus is really declining, that is definitely a great thing for everybody; HOWEVER, if this thing spreads to the rest of the country in a similar way to what everyone has seen in NYC......by September everything will have changed and that includes what is going on with all of us here at T in a very big way.

Let's just hope and pray this thing is actually going away. If it's not, we will REALLY have some serious things to consider come September or even sooner.

We are all faced with some very difficult decisions to make and there is no clear answer yet; but with everyone going back to work, we will have a better sense of where we are in a couple of months for better or worse.

Stay safe!

The amount of crying that some of you are doing paints a very good of the type of employee you are.

“ATT doesn’t care about my health!”

You have a few options:
1) Quit
2) Don’t come to work
3) Practice good hygiene and follow CDC guidelines.

Honestly, you call it greed, but people treated the COVID leave as a vacation. The abuse of the paid time off is most likely why it’s been cut to a minimum now. If you are truly concerned about your risk level with COVID, then utilize your leave options. The crying about your employer wanting you to work for your money is ridiculous.

@ued,

I never said I was a prem tech. I’m a systems technician and we are very much customer facing. Our customers are enterprise customers and small, medium businesses. We install PBX, key systems , routers, switches , WiFi , and other networking equipment. We will cable the whole site if requested. We cable our own corporate buildings. We will install a whole network for a customer if they choose. Our customers are pretty demanding and usually technologically savvy so no b.s ing the customer in our department. We work pretty damn hard. Yes we make approx 39 dollars an hour. Wage scale 32. Same pay as a digital tech and many other techs in wage scale 32. Multiply that by 40 hours a week. Take that number and multiply it by 52 weeks and you get roughly 80-81k. I say roughly because I don’t remember the exact hourly wage. I believe it’s 39 now. Maybe you should think before you speak or attack someone.

Leading researchers have DOUBLED their projected estimate of projected Coronavirus related deaths. The daily deathrate is still GROWING, not coming to an end in several days.

In Randall's world it's once again business as usual for his frontline workers who are facing this deadly pandemic every day. Remember team, YOU MATTER. Unless it costs Randall money. That's allocated for him and Stinky's bonus.

Exactly what sort of frontline worker are you @pia? Because I'm not aware of any Prem Techs making anywhere remotely near $80,000 a year. Are you one of those 'frontline' workers that is paid good wages to work outside in the field and occasionally interact with a customer?

Because that's not the same as spending the majority of your work day in multiple potentially infected customer's houses every day.

Or are you one of those mighty 'frontline' keyboard warriors who sits at a desk trolling employees who actually are facing a deadly viral pandemic every day? Amazing how you gave yourself so many up votes in so short a period of time.

Be happy you have a job right now. 30 Million people are out of work and you’re complaining that a temporary hazard pay increase is now being pulled back? Seriously?!?

AT&T doesn't care about its workers... by giving workers 20% extra pay. Can I get some of that "doesn't care"? Ungrateful much?

I’m a frontline worker. I’m grateful for the 20 percent we got and knew it was temporary. The company did it to encourage more of us frontline workers to remain at work and not take the 4 weeks leave. In reality , we have since learned that there’s not enough work out there to justify having us techs sitting around collecting 20 percent more. Im usually the last to defend att but att is a business like any other. Revenues are declining. Real frontline work has become scarce. It’s hard to justify paying workers 20 percent more when they are looking at having to layoff more of us as this continues. I’m very grateful to not be furloughed at this point ! I would rather give up the 20 percent than be furloughed ! Cmon people. Greed works both ways. Don’t get greedy. I have so many friends and neighbors that are now out of work and we are moaning about losing our 20 percent bonus that we knew was temporary ? My base pay is about 80k in an economy that is tanking. I don’t think those like me have anything to complain about. Some of you are not living in the real world right now.

This is pure greed. AT&T doesn't care about its employees in the least.

The only reason AT&T gave hazard pay to begin with was PR and because the union called them out. Initially, a 20% bonus was offered to call center workers because many weren't coming in to work. The union found out and got them to offer the bonus to all customer facing workers.

Now , AT&T is showing its true feeling towards its workers. We are just an expense that the company wants to eliminate eventually, one way or the other.

Yeah, I agree.

Other than NYC, looks to me like this thing is still escalating; but, T wants to pretend it is over; so at T IT IS OVER.

This whole fiasco has had the feel of a Survivor Episode or something from the very beginning.
