Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

AT&T is good to me

I just got back to work after the 160 hours company paid quarantine COVID19 time off. 20 percent bump in hazard pay is generous and i've only been with the company for 6.5 years. i am grateful that there is a lot of overtime to earn extra money

The 160 hours is mandated by the government and NOT paid for by AT&T.

In retail, we were all getting one week PTO, set by seniority. In my store, not everyone got to go because people got their month off, were higher in seniority, and then got their week PTO. So, some people got 5 weeks off, some people got 0 weeks off. You are one of the lucky ones. If you're in retail, I wouldn't brag about that. A lot of people including myself have been working this entire time you've been off...

Don’t know what you talking about on no ot in the se. They got us on service requirements. We have been hit hard on surplus in the past and don’t have enough techs to clear the load

Being forced to go into people's homes to do non-essential internet upgrades , will be a death sentence for some of us .

Says he’s a LA Prem Tech. Large metro areas = constant work. Same up north here in the Bay Area. OT can be had daily since forever here and we can work a 6 days if desired.

We’d be even more busy and probably could hire more techs if they’d actually fiber up everywhere. Still tons and tons of poles and existing buried facilities where fiber can be pulled in and actually I compete with Comcast.

@beb...folks gotta have a landline if they have T as their "wireless" carrier......either that or get VZW...wayy too many de@d spots.

Mobility tech here as well. I'm grateful for my career and 20% pay raise and for the most part not dealing with as much redtape.
However my biggest gripe is outsourcing work to vendors for 4-5 times more than what we can do it house, even on OT. Can't figure out if it's management bonus driven, look at me business or just laziness by management not to fight for us (and there job) by not pushing for 100% of the growth work.

I don't know how you're getting OT after your paid 4 week vacation, assuming you actually are a tech and not a troll.

There was a little OT available at first, but not now. Now they're taking volunteers to go home early and take unpaid days off. With sales largely shut down and UVerse TV discontinued, it's hard to even get a solid 40 in.

The future is not looking too bright for wireline right now.

Good to hear from a tech that thinks the company is treating him fairly. You don’t get that much on this forum. Most people that post here think they are owed more than additional month of paid time off and 20% extra pay. It s—s that because of the Union you will most likely get surpluses first due to low seniority. We need more people that appreciate what they have. For the mobility tech, you are part of the reason our cost structure is so bad. You collect a full days pay for a half day off work. You are the problem. Good to see you are proud of that.

Good to me too. But, I’m a mobility tech. A little different over here...basically 99% of this forum is wireline, I feel for you guys. But then again, hasn’t it been obvious where POTS is going? I’m not talking about fiber, I’m talking about copper, single pair landline. It’s expensive as a customer for what you get. It’s very expensive to maintain. I get it.

It’s been clear the last 15-20 years or so that wireless of any sort it the future of things.

And no, this isn’t Randy or John or Jeff. I’m just a payroll ID just like you guys.

The company doesn’t owe you a job, just like how you can walk away and find something else at a moments notice. I’m happy where I’m at, but my eyes are always open too. Basically, my self worth isn’t equal to a job at Att. Heck, I check out everyday at like 1pm anyway. (Can’t help it, I’m an early gen millennial ;-)

Keep working that overtime that way they don’t have to employ any more head count. Hope you don’t get burnt out.

By taking that 160 hours paid time off you realize you likely got on "the list". That's the way it works around here. Don't be celebrating just yet, there are lots of cuts coming and you just voluntarily put yourself towards the top of the pile.

You haven’t been here long enough for them to rip your heart and soul out. In a few more years you will only be an empty carcass taking up company real estate

Overtime, bullshot, no OT here in Florida SE. You should of been working the entire EA time to get 20%, you may have waited too long before its gone.

Hope you are doing what you can to stay safe while working and that you are being wise with that extra money and saving it. I fear that times will be grim for a large chunk of us here at AT&T in the near future.
