Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Is anybody shocked we are not on this list?

"With lockdown restrictions from the coronavirus pandemic decimating many U.S. businesses and tens of millions filing for unemployment, it’s no surprise Americans are fretting about their job security. To ease this uncertainty, many technology companies have decided to institute a “no-layoff” policy for their employees during these tumultuous times. Not only is this good for workers — but it’s smart business, too."

"I think the surprising thing is that even Cisco is making a no-layoffs pledge. "

Do you really believe that if Cisco starts losing money and bleeding cash that they won't have a RIF?

"about the companies that ARE making the no layoffs pledges, How many of those companies do you believe will stick to it though? "

It is probable that those making the pledges had no layoff plans in the works, so these "pledges" are basically virtue signalling. It's important to remember that those pledges are not binding in any way. They are not contractual.

And if things go down hill for them them they will "with great regret" break those pledges and have layoffs, insisting that their hands were forced by financial reasons beyond their control.

about the companies that ARE making the no layoffs pledges, How many of those companies do you believe will stick to it though? Also there are other ways to reduce numbers.

Any company making ANY promises at all right now is just a foolish and hollow gesture. The world is too stable to make commitments that you can only hope to stick to.

LE has been busy s—ing up to Trump. A no-layoff position during COVID helps support Trump.

Besides that, Oracle seems to do the opposite of what you might expect... ie: during better times sneak in layoffs to pad the bottom line, during bad times hide layoffs to not look bad.

Meanwhile, regardless of "booming" good times, Oracle rarely if ever provides raises or even a cost of living adjustment (I've seen just one 2.5% adjustment in 15 years and no raise in 18 years in spite of being a team leader in new technology areas). Rah Rah Oracle, you lead the way to 3rd world work environments. I hate it with a passion, but soon to leave for good. Sadly, no COVID layoff package has arrived.
