Probably June Announce, gone by July Q3. They will have ample time to see how lean they can work with all the employees taking that Pandemic Leave or EA. May will give time to size up the workforce for rest of year. No better excuse to let go people than the Covid and 2020 plans. No Surplus in March 1st Quarter because of Covid19.

My guess is the Mcflush call on the 7th will be the announcement then a week or so later the targeted people will be told they are out.

I'm speculating there will be some announcement before the town-hall on May 7th.

Major cut will happen when then amount of work reduces. Without work, what are you going to do with the workers?

McElfresh sent out meeting invite for All Employee Town Hall on May 7, among topics is to provide updates on our "transformation initiatives"....

I would say before the the end of 2nd Qtr that the 1st Qtr layoff will resume. Then there will be one for 3QTR, and 4TQ.. On the webcast Stankey did say to the board that there will be reductions this year moving forward.

I agree that in 3Q Stankey may want to make his mark immediately & announce layoffs.

But it's also an election year, so waiting until 4Q may make sense too, if AT&T wants to maintain a good relationship with Washington DC. Laying off people when the government is trying to repair the fragile economy may not be viewed favorably. Despite the Trump vs CNN feud, the Fed is supporting the corporate bond market, and congress is talking about an infrastructure spending bill (which could include 5G buildouts).

Just like when any other work group get new leadership you can expect Stankey to want to make his mark.

July 1 he will want to show he is turning the ship quickly. The sooner he shows progress the better for his future.

In states that aren’t PUC regulated you can anticipate cuts to POTS fairly quickly.
Uverse has already stopped selling new services. So you will see lay-offs in that department first.

AT&T will be concentrating on the areas that have a existing fiber footprint. If you work in a market with limited or no fiber you need to get to a fiber market.

If you are an org that supports Uverse platform or POTS infrastructure you need to make your way to fiber. There will still be work for IEFS and TFS with in the fiber networks, but it will not require the same headcount we have today.

On the Stankey/Morrow/McElfresh webcast they admit Verizon was a couple years ahead on the plan we will follow. Verizon did all they could to get copper off their books and it proved to save them money. Morrow has been a big proponent of dumping POTS with the other companies he has consulted for in the past.

I expect you will see a lot of AVP and higher retirements in the coming months, an MVO offer, then a Q3 surplus.
