Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

So what happened with AT&T TV?

I thought AT&T TV was supposed to be the Second Coming of television. Stephenson & Stankey touted that everyone was going to flock to this (non-groundbreaking, expensive, outdated) model because of how (not) amazing it is. Yet surprisingly, there wasn't really a mention of it on the earnings call...

Once again, senior leadership tries to paint rocks and pretend they've struck gold...

From TechCrunch: Despite its “streaming” nature — it ships with an Android TV-powered box to deliver TV over the internet — consumers may have already caught on to the fact that it’s still just the worst of pay TV wrapped up in a new delivery mechanism.

At&t will never be able to get the same money for a steaming service with a 2 yr contract and limit to 3 rooms they should have just got with tv manufactures and had it build within the tvs no equipment to build or ship but then the couldnt get that free gravy no add ons like protections plans 99$ service calls 199$ move fees the list goes on.
they ruined a great company by not controlling sales teams and let them flip accounts just like when they teamed up with dish network years ago and got that a– sued its funny as hell they stole their onw customers this time to show new customers lmao then b–ch about losing customers the next month

Well you see Comcast is a real company with smart thinkers leading it. Also has faster internet everywhere by leaps & bounds and has made the real commitment with $$$$ to actually update their network. Same is true for any catv operator. Plus coax is durable, easier to install/service. And they don’t need to build a mobile network, just partner. In addition that national wifi everywhere network ain’t too shabby.

We’re a joke, it’s not even close. Most residential folks have catv for their isp, I’m not kidding. I’m still puzzled we have customers because I won't be one if I get axed here.

Sketchy slow intermittent bonded pair circuits on old pots copper don’t cut it with all the gadgets in homes today.

Yes we have fiber but it’s vaporware, it barely exists. They way it rolled out was a incompetent wreck. We’ll upgrade here, but around the corner nope, your still on central office dsl. Wtf is that?? I don’t expect that to change ever. Still so much could be fibered and keep us bu$y for years. People want options! Just leaving $$$$ on the table.

Pure S show 2020

"Our expectations on AT&T TV have been very consistent with what we have seen even with the suppression of the pandemic in the latter part of March where we were restricted on the certain number of dispatches and some of our capacity there," said Stankey, "So, we feel pretty good about that launch and where we went."

Um, I thought he said AT&T TV is a customer self install product, saving the company millions is dispatches.

Comcast, while they are most hated company in the country, is giving out a steaming box to their customers. Yes, you read correctly, free to use at no cost. Darn it, it comes with voice control remote too, which isn't revolutionary anymore.

Meanwhile T wants to charge you a monthly fee for their box, that is really really competitive and value driven. It is pretty tough to go below Comcast, T must've gone through some extraordinary effort to outdo Comcast. That has to be another trophy for Stank's desk too.

They seem to be selling the box more than the service. Watch the ads.

"Our expectations on AT&T TV have been very consistent with what we have seen even with the suppression of the pandemic in the latter part of March where we were restricted on the certain number of dispatches and some of our capacity there," said Stankey, "So, we feel pretty good about that launch and where we went. As you know, we have ramp that throughout the year, so one month does not make a year, but we are right on the plan of what we expected in terms of volume and customer feedback on the customers we have put on the product has been probably stronger than what we expected."

Conclusion, the expectations s—s, period. Before the launch, now and after, expectations on the product s—s. How do you go from latter part of March into a whole month and it doesn't make a year. And dispatches, wow, the whole deal about steaming and there is not f'ing dispatches. And capacity isn't an issue when you are loosing more customers than gaining, what capacity is he talking about? All the big talk about volumes, and he can't spell out the number of subs. Stank is sounding more and more like Trump in a briefing, we are doing great because I'm the CEO, never mind facts and products.

They needed people to forget about those things so they could give away 3 free months of HBOMax and claim how the number of people subscribed to it exceeded expectations.

@bcn - That post is about AT&T TV Now, not AT&T TV. Although given how many different services the company has that all seem to do basically the same thing (and how news articles have come out saying even AT&T reps are getting confused when they talk to customers about the differences), I'm not surprised you mixed them up too.

Sounds like att is applying Microsoft business software policies to tv. Buy from us and your service will be obsolete in few years but we will give you our latest product as an upgrade and new product. Of course it will cost more and you actually get less but it’s new technology so just upgrade. Sounds like a lot of their products run like windows too - junk. I bet the pebble beach gang loves it too.
