Yeah, IT here. I'm not usually overworked, sometimes, but that's normal flow, and I'm not in support, there are times when it gets heavy, the problem is 90% of what I do is stupid work.
The 10% that is not stupid is important, don't get me wrong, but the 90% that's stupid is self inflicted.
No one wants to admit that the new system that they spent two years developing is garbage and already out of date, so we keep using the old systems, and after a few years we have 5 systems to do what we used to get done with one.
And since none of those systems rely on a common database, I spend hours a day doing copy/paste from Excel flippin' spreadsheets like it's 1995.
It's 2020. I do copy/paste. From MS Excel. All. Day. Long. In IT.
And because none of our systems have a common database, our reporting is garbage.
The other day I actually got a good chunk of work done, and it felt really good.
But that was one day out of dozens where I leave my system dreading coming back to it the next day.
Sometimes the 90% that's stupid takes up so much time, but management wants it done NOW, that I get behind on the actual work.
I can't wait to get let go or find something new. I hate it here so much.
Oh, and layoff related? If Saul is saying the Strategy is still the strategy and just on hold, then he's full of it and the strategy was and is and has always been attrition, because insisting people come into an office during a pandemic that is going to last at least two years is nonsense.
