Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

Verizon syndrome

I quit Verizon and moved on. The grass truly is greener. Local doctors call it "Verizon syndrome" with how many people they see with anxiety/stress/depression issues working for Verizon. This shouldn't be, hang in there folks

I left almost a year ago and to be honest, this job was nowhere near the stress of a different job. Went to a B2B position somewhere else and believe me when I say... stress at Verizon is nowhere near you will encounter in other places.

Over 10 years ago I started with VZW during the great recession. VZW changed my life's trajectory, and am so thankful for the opportunities and training given to me. Before Verizon bought VZW from Vodafone, VZW was a different and amazing company. Opportunities were endless, VZW was the pinnacle, and employees and customers had a swagger being a part of BIG RED. That said, the industry is commoditized, and Verizon seeks to maximize profitability to shareholders through operational cuts while fighting a price war with T-Mo. VZW is not the loyal employer they used to be, but many tenured employees continue to fear leaving to pursue better work life balance and growth opportunities elsewhere.

Stay happy and grow at VZW, but always be ready to move. VZW has an obligation do what is best for itself, and you need to do the same. Pursue new channels and opportunities within VZW that will make you more marketable outside of VZW. Always fight for your work/life balance. Senior Leadership supports these ideals, but many middle managers have sacrificed their life/families/marriages/coworkers to get ahead in VZW, and expect you to do the same. Try to find a boss that supports you as a person, and that will find creative ways to manage you in a way to accommodate your style, and balance.

Finally, when it is time to leave VZW, DO IT! It will be great, and you will be happier. There is life after VZW, and you will wonder why you didn't do it sooner.

One of my favorite bosses said: "VZW will try to make you work 60 hrs a week, your job is to work 35 and make it look like you work 60."

The grass is greener, and thereis life after VZ...I left and lost 25lbs of stress...literally, it melted off!!! I loved my dept and co workers, they paid well and offered great benefits...but the politics and upper managment....corporate, Hans, and the other leaders....stressful, deadly! Dont be fooled, if and when they decide it's time to downsize..they will walk you out the door...no matter your worth. Its all about the money, and is not personal...but when its your family, it's very personal. I am not a troll or a union person...I am someone who knows first hand, been there, done that. However, I understand why people stay, I stayed for 25 yrs. As for "fairness", nothing in life is meant to be fair, using that word will get you no where!

Actually it has more to do with Verizons leave policies...... they are far to generous for those that want to abuse them.

Nobody is going to quit during a pandemic OP. At this point I’ll wait until they pay us to leave.

I think the Verizon Syndrome “ is when a person claims to leave but keeps coming back posting their nonsense. If you left, good for you. Move on. We can make our own decisions.
