Former Wells Fargo CEO wants Americans back to work next month: ‘Some may even die, I don’t know’

Richard Kovacevich, the former CEO of Wells Fargo, wants Americans to get back to their jobs — even if it k–ls them.

In an interview with Bloomberg, Kovacevich said that he thinks we have to get Americans working again sometime by the end of next month. Although he’d prefer to have them come back after the coronavirus pandemic is under control, he said the risks to the economy were too great to keep them out much longer.

“We’ll gradually bring those people back and see what happens,” he said. Some of them will get sick, some may even die, I don’t know… Do you want to suffer more economically or take some risk that you’ll get flu-like symptoms and a flu-like experience? Do you want to take an economic risk or a health risk? You get to choose.”

President Donald Trump this week said that he also wanted to see Americans get back to work next month, either by April 1st or by Easter on April 12th, even though public health officials have warned him that the pandemic will not be anywhere close to under control in that time frame.

Trump has reportedly received a push to get Americans back to work by Wall Street executives who are upset that social distancing measures are harming the economy

@oln

This board and thread is about WF, WF employees, and Kovacevich, not every business in the world.

His first name says it all.

He's an awful person who did despicable things at WF that led to where we are today.

Human health is paramount. There are NO accessible human losses. Period.

There are plenty of people who are not working. The restaurant industry is huge in this country, and it's not just the restaurant employees. It's their suppliers too. Then there are the barbers, hairdressers, nail salons, small stores etc. And the hotels. And the people who clean them. And the people who plan and work events. And the construction workers.

Not everybody in the world sits at a desk tapping on a keyboard.

There aren’t that many people who aren’t working. Corp people are on their laptops, call center folks still going. Not all branches open, but many are, and the tech people are keeping digital/online rolling. He should probably stop talking. Ten days of reduced capacity and these people freak out, jeez. Take a Valium and a nap - it’s not an apocalypse, we need to adjust and help people get through it.

The same flippant attitude that led his proteges John Stumpf and Carrie Tolstedt to run the company into the ground.

He is correct though, our economy will spin out of control if we stay locked down.
