Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Employee Retention Tax Credits

So Randall is on the "Business Roundtable" of large company CEOs.
Last week they sent a letter to the President asking for a few things:

  • Employee Retention Tax Credits (i.e. "we won't lay people off for a while, if you cut our taxes. Otherwise...")
  • Temporary Employer Payroll Tax Holiday
  • Temporary Delay in Pension Funding Requirements

So our next round of layoffs will probably be driven in part by these tax issues.

He also said the GOP tax cuts last year would be to retain employees. We had record layoffs. The funds were used to buy back stock. The money congress approves must have strings attached.

Delay in pension funding will go to pay down debt

With all the stock he owns its in his best interest to have the stock bounce back as soon as the current situation is over. Since 2018 he's been in retirement mode, I would expect him to be more pro-active and would not be surprised if he delays his leave.

man takes guts to write the president for money when you have been screwing up a company left and right. companies should not have been buying back stocks and saving money for days like these. how can these ceos get rewarded for screwing up this is getting ridiculous. people who have gotten great performance reviews get laid off all the time for this company why do ceos get a pass.

Next round of layoffs will be based on number of workers needed to do the necessary work. Why would a company lay off workers if they were needed to do the work? Seems like a pretty simple concept to understand.

Sound like a predatory lawsuit because some lawyer saw some technical irregularity.

maybe they will need help paying what they owe the employees that took the pension buyout and they weren't updating their information.

There are some retiring requirements in the Senate bill for companies wanting rescue funds.
