Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Will Buyout stop Surplus activity for a while ?

As I read the proposals and details , it looks like if AT&T is going to ask for Buyout help (and they will which is why they stopped the Stock Buyback), that looks to also mean they cannot layoff any Employees for a given Period of Time, I am wondering how this will effect some of us that were supposed to be let go 3/20 but got delayed, anyone have any thoughts or information

IMO, surpluses and layoffs will resume only after it has become socially acceptable and everybody is doing it because of the severity of the downturn. In my mind, that would be in the Fall of 2020.

With massive financial losses due to the shutdown of the entire economy, layoffs will be numerous for all companies including T. There is no alternative until we get to the other side of this thing.

Prepare now for what's coming. You have to. Do it now. Start salting some of your checks away. Get out of debt if you can. Don't buy anything unless it is absolutely necessary.

Prepare for NYC and Pray you are wrong.

So if ATT takes the federal money, there won't be any craft layoffs for the rest of the year?

I am in the same boat and do believe they will continue the pause at least until the federal social distancing guidelines. It would be a PR nightmare to lay people off right now after using the tax breaks to buy back stock.

The bailout is for companies adversely affected by the Corona-virus. Not for those ruined by the actions of an incompetent CEO and his incompetent brown nosing lackeys.

If anything, top management's panic over this meltdown and their jobs and bonuses will make them send their "yes sir" VPs even deeper into their org's with headcount machete's, slashing away like crazed lunatics at your livelihood and yelling "virus, virus, OMG it's the virus" the whole time. Hey, if it's not 100 or 200 of you, it may be 1 of them. At this point, they can "rationalize you away" even faster.

yep layoffs will continue and buyouts will go to randy's and stanks golden parachute along with stock buybacks. they will get their money and nothing will change and the people who created the mess will get rewarded and patted on the back instead of jail time. and we wonder why our society is the way it is today. example number one.
