Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

New hire layoffs

I wanted to bring this up because some points could be made about this in future layoffs (face it we all know Verizon, they will happen again)
Our call center hired 17 new employees, we thought this was a good sign that maybe our call center will start hiring again and everything would be good. In MID TRAINING they announced the call center closure about 1 to 2 weeks into it, they layed off all the new hires with no severance and turned them loose. These people had quit jobs and changed livelihoods for perceived stable employment..to be turned away nearly immediately after the fact. This was one of many centers that closed at the same time. This shows Verizon's true colors and a good employer would never hide secrets like that...I'm glad to be done working for them

Previous centers that closed went through same thing. They keep it business as usual until the announcement is made in order to not freak people out until vzw is ready to deal with it. So just because you're still hiring, doesn't mean you're safe. With all the hba and outsourcing (globally even)..it's just a matter of time. Prepare yourself for change.

Verizon execs knew the call centers were going to close for over a year and didn't tell anyone...ok as a business standpoint maybe it makes sense, but they should've stopped them from making offers

I kind of understand this, don't you? We are not going to pay untrained people to go sit st home.
