Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Union reached agreement for new contract?

Just got a short summary telling us the “improvements” of our new contract. Didn’t read anything about guaranteed jobs on there. Their first main highlights were about just about getting earlier lay-off notifications. Looks like we’re getting F—ed again boys.

Lot of assumptions about what other workers do or don’t do. Remember what happens when you assume? A– u me ! Everything is relative. If everyone lives in a tent then a 800 square ft house is a castle. If you started work for a company that provided good pay, full healthcare, annual bonus / team award, and then the SBC boys took everything away except good pay- what is the result.? SCREWED BY COWBOYS AND ABANDONED BY THE UNION

Why bother voting. It’s a done deal. If absolutely nobody voted maybe there would be a message sent to this sorry union. Keep paying those dues to keep those officers in the lap of luxury and the politicians happy the union supports

All must realize that labor contracts are agreed to months before the end of the current contract including the delays. It is just a big dance between 2 parties that are posturing for the workers and the public. “We gave them this” from the company. “We got them this” from the union. Just keep paying those dues to finance the dance !

You are paying for a service by paying dues. The minimum expectation is that your representatives are professionals. If the people on the committee that bargain are not properly trained bargaining professionals, then you have a possible civil case not only against the union, but against each member of the committee. Most volunteer for that job. That makes them personally responsible for their knowledge and ability to represent you.

Stoping complaining for just a moment and look at the contract. Oh, doesn't matter what is on the contract. Go back to complaining.

@1ibl, the U created a mess when they allowed the PT/WT into the contract (albeit an addendum) and take work away from other higher wage scale techs. I get it that if there's a guy out there working, the U wants him to be a member, but that shouldn't come at the expense of current members. Can't blame the PT/WT, they didn't know what they were getting in to. Can't blame the core techs for being p!$$ed that the U gave their work away to a lower waged "brother". IMHO, the U shouldn't have taken in the PT/WT's but rather sit back and let T destroy the job title themselves.

Pharaoh needed the slaves to build the tombs. AT&T needs wire techs to install residential fiber and copper uverse. All techs are now required to complete installs that include inside work. Some get paid more than others. Give unto Caesar which is Caesar’s.

So, , , , , what are the details?? Super confused at this point after reading this post.. it’s open information that they will k–l the “Prem Tech” title, whatever it is in your region, in 5 years. This is 100% straight from Texas. Hopefully they will migrate those remaining into the rest of the “Core” title, whatever may be left, in that time. Who knows at this point. They have technicians in Illinois who were exposed to Covid19 and still servicing customers at this time. This isn’t an isolated incident either. Both unions have been non existent during this pandemic or panic whatever your thoughts. One thing for sure, it’s not these companies who keep the world together it is “US” we need to begin to think for the greater good and keep an eye out for one another and for those in need.

I just finished reading most of these posts and all I can say is it saddens me to see the company is clearly winning. Anytime craft is fighting craft , the company is winning. Please think about that the next time you attack a fellow craft employee based on his title. It’s beneath you all. If an executive level “company man” is reading these posts , it no doubt brings a smile to his face as you guys are just giving them even more ideas of how to continue to divide and conquer us. Here’s an oldie but goodie: if you have nothing nice to say , keep it to yourself.

Scared to gaff? Gtfo lol I just gaffed yesterday. Ain’t nobody scared to climb a 20-30 ft pole! All I’ve been doing for the past 2 years is hanging new fiber drops all over LA and loans all over CA. Sometimes even fixing mst tickets where they were to lazy to do the grunt work. So yeah I think we deserve the 35 dollars.

It's got better severance, 401k improved, 4 years of raises. CWA did as good as you can expect when they have no leverage

They didn’t list it under “maintained”. Of course the company would come to an agreement this quickly if it means they can finally surplus without having to offer something else. The bargaining committee are id–ts if they left this out.

People that say “can quit anytime he/she wants” why wouldn’t you want the best deal made for our contract??? You’re probably the tech that does 5 jobs a day, cutting corners, making efficiency super unreasonable. If you’ve been with the company long enough, you’d be able to see how much c-ap they throw on our plate like Directv/fiber/pair changes/sales/etc. without ANY compensation. When I was first hired we rarely had to climb and poles, now we practically live on them. We literally do it ALL. And get treated/paid like sh– compared to other companies/titles. It’s people like you that say yes to BS contracts like this. WAKE UP!

Please everyone vote no on anything that doesn’t have us with “guaranteed jobs”. I feel like thats more important than getting paid a couple more dollars an hour. We gotta keep our jobs guys. I know the feeling of being laid off looking for work, most of us do... it’s terrible.
