Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

AT&T using pandemic as a way to cull the craft workforce

It looks that way to me. Only management gets to work from home. If a craft employee gets sick and dies, one less headcount that they don’t have to pay severance to, don’t pay their pension and might have life insurance on them to collect. If they get sick and recover but were out for days, maybe they can’t prove it was the COVID virus- they get put on a development plan that makes it easier to let them go in the future. What would be the downside for AT&T?

Even in jest, the idea that any member of our team at at&t would wish death on a co-worker is beyond offensive.

Total insanity.

4% mortality rate

yeah, because a mortality rate of less than 1% will really trim the craft workforce. What a nonsensical post.

"maybe they can’t prove it was the COVID virus"
Actually, there will be an antibody test soon. Presence of an antibody will prove that one had coronavirus. In fact, I think there was some who got it, had mild symptoms and have since recovered. I only noticed a cough. If I have the antibody, not only did I have it, but I'm now immune and presumably won't give it to others.
Let's avoid the drama queen stuff. Most of us will do fine.

Cull the craft workforce, or get rid of the malcontents and under-performers.

Outside techs obviously can’t work from home , so until there is a shelter in place directive, they would be exposed. So AT&T keeps them in the the field and admin workers in the bldgs until they no longer can do so legally.

How exactly could a tech work from home?
Techs are needed, managers are not.
