Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Who will start?

Announcing layoffs in the middle of a pandemic is really bad optics but we know that won't stop 99 percent of the companies once somebody breaks the ice. So who do you think will be the first one to announce major layoffs and take the wrath of the public?

I personally think AT&T will wait. There has been too much bad press lately to add that to the mix. But I might be wrong.

I’m thinking of this from a small business perspective, because I am a small biz owner. So as the owner, I don’t have any revenue coming in, I’ve got bills to pay for the business and my personal. Now, I’m going to try my best to take care of my employees, but at the end of the day if my business goes under then they won’t have a job to come back to. I’ve only got so much in savings to cover all of this. What would you do? I can lay-off my employees and they can get unemployment benefits and the business might survive and I can hire them back when I reopen. Or I can try to cover their salaries, bankrupt myself and the business and they still have to go on unemployment and don’t have jobs to come back to. Granted I’m talking about local businesses here. Att will get a big bailout from the government.

If there isn't work then they won't need the workers. Who would pay workers if they didn't have work to do?

NC governor Cooper said that they are waiving the fees the businesses pay to unemployment when laying off employees... it’s bid Corp chance to save both ways

I get the impression they will continue the blood bath, as they hasn't got loan forgiveness on their massive debt, so they will game like a Democrat and optimize on the problem for personal gain. In fact, I think they are giddy over the crisis, as they find ways to capitalize on it.

Companies are laying people off every day. Mostly servers, and bartenders, and any business that demands multiple customers at a time.

I think AT&T will wait too. With all said and done, AT&T is still the backbone of the country and in many cases connecting other countries critical infra. AT&T will possibly get stimulus from government if hell breaks loose.

I do not think AT&T will care about bad press(IMHO).

Surprisingly, AT&T stocks are holding up against several other big ones like Amazon, Apple and others. Though Stankey thinks that Pandemic is good for entertainment business, i still think entertainment business will severely get affected eventually.
