Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Will working here ever become less stressful?

It'd be nice to reduce the number of meds I'm taking mostly as a result of working at AT&T...

To expand on what @ggm so eloquently started, "It's a job." And it's not just a job, but a really really sh1tty job. One where you get treated like a piece of dogsh1t on a daily basis so that incompetent m0rons in the C-suite can get giant bonuses from your sweat while you deal with the endless stress of watching your coworker's jobs get sent to the other side of the world.

It's a 'job' - where you pay for the joy of working for this company by sacrificing your health, your emotional sanity, and time to have a life or spend with your family. People shouldn't have to sacrifice so much just to go to work and have a 'job'.

"Unfortunately not. Be thankful you don't work in EG (Entertainment Group) out of El Segundo."

As a contractor let go from this very department, I wholeheartedly agree.

OK BOOMER, AKA @ggm, go ahead and tell us how tough it was back in your glory days. Most of us don't want to relive the 1800's. Society has advanced since then. Slavery has long since been outlawed. We've even created unions to protect us from sweatshop employers like AT&T.

It would be nice if you and AT&T would get with the times.

@ggm+13yePja0 I am sure it was worse in the 1800’s so what is your point. A lot of us aren’t connected in the union so we don’t have the privilege of permanent employees. If have nothing constructive to say then shut up.

So sorry for those going through this. I also have firsthand knowledge of this. Never had any health issues in my life prior to all of this upheaval.

I’ve found some relief by taking a step back and focusing on at what’s really important. And I don’t mean all of this busywork at the office. I know it’s easier said than done, but I’m getting a little better with practice.

Just save money like crazy and learn to live a quality life on a fraction of what you are currently spending. Spend your off hours being as physically active as you can handle. It really does help.

Used to be run like the military in the 80's.
Treated us like cr@p.
Bosses were nasty, other linemen/techs were until you earned some respect.
This is nothing new.
Difference is, we were a bit tougher then.
It's a job...not therapy, socialization, fun, enjoyment, enlightenment, recreation, a hobby, spiritual awakening or any other nonsense you wish it to be.
A job.
Perhaps the Peace Corps is more apropos for you.
S— it up.

Stress is your reaction to the environment youre in. I think you need to learn coping methods because your environment wont change. Try EAP.

Nope. Half, if not more, of the people I work with are on meds for various medical and mental issues.
