Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Anyone that relocates for Wells Fargo is crazy...

Do not move for this company. You are placing yourself and your family at risk. They have no clue how to lead through times of change and you will find yourself stranded in a city or state that you have no connection to. Stay where you are, make no commitments and let the burden fall on Wells Fargo. They have to do something with you. You are better off firmly planting your feet where you are and wait for them to pay you. They will sever you or they may blink and let you stay (either way you win). Please do not put your family in harms way for a company that has a history of disdain for customers and employees.

CHARLOTTE will not be getting anyone. It is a maintain headcount city as part of this migration strategy.

From today’s Charlotte Observer: “asking”?! They are not simply asking. Don’t move folks. The next quarters that they miss, and they will miss earnings, will lead to layoffs. They will not care that you just uprooted your life for them.

Wells Fargo & Co.'s Charlotte operations will likely see an influx of technology workers in the coming months.

The San Francisco-based bank is asking 650 tech employees across the United States to relocate to larger markets — one of those being Charlotte, spokesman Peter Gilchrist confirmed.

This is simply a workforce reduction disguised as nonsense. First of all Wells pays far below industry standards for IT talent because of the remote opportunities. Next nobody is going to pick up their entire life and move it to some metro area without a large pay adjustment which is not being offered. I will not answer the Agile nonsense as that is just crazy talk. I am a certified scrum master, Agile has zero to do with location.

Amen!!! Everyone needs to hold ground. This company is still dirty. It’s not so bad if you have only lost a year or two of your life but for those that have sacrificed once, don’t do it again!

I’m in marketing, not tech, but I saw them do that to a pretty high-level manager. He lasted 18 months before they unceremoniously canned him. He was smart, though and didn’t uproot his family. Worked in one city and went home to another on weekends.

Everyone though it was weird that he didn’t move, until they didn’t.

I met a middle manager early last year (before Saul) who was told he had to move from Charlotte to Chandler. None of the team he manages are in Chandler.
When he arrived in Chandler, WF did not have any space for him in the office. He spent over a month telecommuting. Then they found him a space in Tempe, which doesn't seem far from Chandler, but in that bottleneck, at least an hour drive each way. After 3 months, he finally got space in Chandler. Still no one from his team (his direct reports) in that office, And he spent a week every month flying back to Charlotte for meetings. He was not happy about uprooting his family from Charlotte and all their friends and family there to move to Chandler for what? for a relocation strategy that was not well thought out?

"You are placing yourself and your family at risk."

I agree with that completely - can imagine someone who just move and BAM ... sorry we don't need you anymore.
