This whole thing is a ruse. In the name of Agile and Co-location ... they are trying to reduce headcount. Make them pay!
Had to update this in bopes that those that wrote will see. New feature teams in engineering include 12+ people in ONE team, spread across MULTIPLE managers but NOT focused on their expertise. No team daily standups. Team Lead IS ALSO THE "Product Owner". How the F is this agile? Joke of a company.
The Agile Manifesto was written 20 years ago. The principle being used to justify forcing everyone to come to an office is this one: "The most efficient and effective method of conveying information to and within a development team is face-to-face conversation." 20 years ago the alternative was paper. What this principle is saying is, "Face to face conversations are better than writing everything down and sending it to everyone." Duh! But this problem has been solved. The answer is video conferencing and physical get-togethers once or twice a year. Everyone wins. But this is not what WF wants. They want to reduce headcount without saying the word "layoff". Shame on them. Thoughtless a55holes.
Agile vs. waterfall has nothing to do with project management. Usually the scrum master and PM are not the same person because the PM would oversee not only the technical dev component of potentially several technical teams, but also training, communications, BPP, IVR, HR, facilities and so forth of any given project. And all the same documentation is required too.
I agree though that management is being dishonest, an entire project team is really never co-located. That’s just impossible. It doesn’t matter, and I think developers should always have the ability to spend a chunk of their time in peace and quiet.
Agile is a joke. It was a cleverly marketed “just git ‘er done” concept with minimal PM bureaucracy. This biz fad is already long in the tooth and now safe to abandon as redundant layers of process oriented PMs have been removed... the real intent of Agile.
There is Agile training on the teamworks website, much of it free.
Agile does not apply to everyone, no matter what Saul says, and Agile is just project management dressed up in new buzzwords.
Agile is a joke. Ask your manager if they will pay for Agile training and take note of their answer. It will be NO! My team asked for training multiple times and we were told “it’s not in the budget”. They are not paying for training because they are not shifting to Agile. Trash management, poor group unity and the lack of processes will not allow them to do anything agile.
