Job Title Restructuring

Has anyone heard of a massive job title restructuring that will take place in March for L2 Managers? Will it affect pay scales?

We were told about it a month ago. Due to the fact many of the functions are "managed" outsource contracts, there is no need to manage those contracts. At the moment, my workload has increased 1.5 times. Not doing anything productive, just managing BS and attempting to streamline to the pre-outsource state. I expect the change to occur before the end of 1Q.

My director got selective hearing disorder on the issues and for everything i get a "solution" from her with out understanding the problem. To add to the issue, she sells these "solutions" to her AVP and tags that as accomplishment for the town hall.

To be fair, many Directors and AVPs "pass the buck", and ADs end up being their personal reporting and paperwork b**ches. Just sayin.

I also lost my AD title but makes sense as most AD's are basically leads and on technical teams work closely with their Team's on solutioning. I should have prefaced that with most "good" AD's. There are a lot of AD's who assume their job is Admin only and defer the Technical aspects of the job to the Team Lead's. How about the Director's though with no reports doing basically Level 2 work? Are they going to look at those ridiculous titles?

only rumor I've heard is that they are eliminating the "Associate Director" title within the Level 2s...which kinda impacts all organizations. AD roles have a higher job band, a slightly higher bonus than the Lead/Sr. Manager/Sr. Associate titles within Level 2. I lost my AD title back in the day because I lost direct reports and didn't meet the minimum while many Directors in my group had zero reports so that makes complete sense as usual.

Heard the same thing. I’ve been told that a title change is coming but pay will not change.

Constant title changes keeps HR people employed. My title was eliminated last year so I could some new title...no Parscale changes. They updated descriptions that went with titles too.

It is about time someone looks at the titles as they make no sense. If you are in Labs you have an MTS title whereas pay range is much higher than someone without the MTS title in ATO or BMO but doing highly more technical work and with an advanced technical degree. It is ridiculous as someone should not move from the Labs to a similar if not more technical L2 position in another tower and lose 30K in salary range. It is bull s**t.

The one last year in ATO affected Mobility’s pay ranges...lowered them a lot.

@ebp+13tP795x, that would be me, an unappreciated, disposable, grunt who can easily become surplus. That would be great, please come and get me, I have lots of plans get underway in terms of a retired life started, once I'm sprung from this prison. Boating, fishing, hunting, golfing, banging old widows, restoring antique hot rods, volunteering my time at all sorts of places that can appreciate me, and not treated like I'm a disposable grunt.

One would think that HR is too busy whacking people that HR would not have any time to do this sort of paper shuffling. After all, HR has to whack people in waves as they cannot deal with all the whacking mismanagement would like to do all at the time time. So if mismanagement does want new titles, there must be a reason - which is usually to save $ in some way!

In the past, they would periodically change titles and it did not seem to impact anything. Back in those days it was more to align titles across collapsing organizations.

No, but I have often wished someone could have come up with something that made more sense than "Senior Tech Eng Network Eng Tech" or the other dumb varieties out there.

No, I have not heard this till now. There was one late last year, it an area in ATO, and did not affect pay. In general, with title changes, the pay is not affected, but the pay range is, you could change a color and move left or right, and that will give you management the ability affect your future pay/raises, etc.
