Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

They wanted me to go to India for

2 Weeks to train. I asked if there were incentives for me to go to India and the response I got was "A Better Transition". I nearly laughed in their face and declined. They really thought they could get people being shown the door to go to India to help out. Same mentality that thinks charging more for less will lead to customer growth? The same mentality that couldn't compete with TMobile and Verizon so decided to get in the ring with Disney, Amazon, Google, Netflix?

I wouldn’t go anywhere near China right now.

After over 10 years without any travel budget (except for CP training to pole camp), I would welcome a final all-expense paid trip offshore, especially if I could use some accumulated vacation days while over there to see the country.

For me, travel on their dime would be more satisfying than just saying "no" and winding out the last weeks of my job on teleconference transition. Incidentally, my observation at least with contractors is that the voice connections are not reliable. One of our guys actually uses his personal India mobile to talk to us.

Can't wait for all of India to go on strike and T's systems to go dark. "Please, all laid off workers, return for the same pay and harsh working conditions! Please! Please! Please! Randy promises to be good!"

I salute you for telling them no. What's the worst that can happen, they fire you without a severance package? My dignity and values are more important than a severance package.

@iht+13sWPNqU Verizon tried to outsource 2500 employees (+/- 600 declined). No one who was stateside was sent to India to do knowledge transfer. Vz would be too cheap and no one would go.
And not all the work is in India (yet) either. They have plenty of Infy resources working in Vz offices in the US.

Are you training people in India or are they training you?

Accept only if you wish to take a vacation sight seeing over there after they pay your flight. Otherwise refuse. If you don't have proper vaccinations , passport and you take a chance on illness from the food and water it is a hassle.

Wow unreal and kudos to for telling them no. Att is a cesspool. Even lower than a cesspool. Disgusting and I love how other people bring other companies in to sadly try to justify the behavior - has to be an asset management troll to protect the brand. Hope college hires run from this place and let it die on a vine that is what att deserves.

Do not forget Verizon outsourced majority of its operations and IT an year ago and it all went to India.

TMobile constantly finds applications that can be fully managed and not mission critical be gone to India.

AT&T does that in a very poor fashion.

We are Telecom family with Thanksgiving bunch coming from Verizon, TMobile, Comcast and AT&T. Our company is the one where leadership does not want to be engaged in any form of execution.
They are very busy managing their bosses. Others companies do have them, but they sound like exceptions. At AT&T this is the norm.
