You can take unemployment. And select the checkbox so they don't take taxes to reduce the payout.
if it's an involuntary termination without cause, the UI claim wont be challenged. If the claim is challenged, it will fail. That includes volunteering for the layoff. Relax
That's my fault, sorry. I was just making the observation that if they listed those of us who took MVO as "involuntary", then maybe some other rules apply. Like, T is doing something underhanded with it to benefit itself by lying on the severance paystub, because the fact is that is a LIE. They are lying. Mine was definitely not involuntary.
OP Here.. not sure why this thread is all amped up about unemployment claims. Never indicated about filing, so everyone relax.
I think Equifax has an automated process to fight unemployment claims for ATT, but I don't know the details.
If I take the MVO, I'm considering filing for unemployment just to be an azzhole. After years of surpluses and outsourcing, arguments can be made to support constructive dismissal. Anyone supervisory or HR know the costs and processes for T to fight unemployment claims? I have heard that unemployment rulings for MVO vary by state. If you don't ask, you don't get.

@1suz+13o0PQNm, I do all that too (LinkedIn, etc), and agree the job market is great in the DFW/Texas area, and that if you left, not MVO or Rebadged, then yes you should not apply for unemployment benefits. However, I want to leave, and I want to be surplus. If I don't get it, but an MVO, or worse a rebadge, I'll 'quit. Then go file for unemployment and look for another job. I'm late 50's, and though the job market is ripe, there is ageism, and I'm not going to get a 'real' job that is anything close to what I do now or get paid. So hypothetically I would have left on my own in this case, it was a matter of no choice, as there is a point to where you just can't do it, due to the way the company is treating you. And yes AT&T may challenge the claim, you can fight it. I think that the TEC is very understanding and has come across this very example more than once. I think that when they look at years of employment, reasons for leaving, the fact you're still of working age, and looking for a good job replacement, they will allow for the benefit. As a piece of advice to anyone that is still employed, and think you may retire/quite/get terminated, go now and file with the TEC. This will help you in the long run. That way when you do get the boot, yours or theirs, you're already in the system, and this weighs bigly.
You voluntarily left your jobs, on what planet should you be eligible to collect unemployment benefits? Don’t get me wrong, I am happy for those of you that volunteered to go but I believe the company SHOULD challenge any unemployment claims. That’s not what unemployment is for. Good luck to you all. Go get a job if you’re still of working age; job market is great. I’m still here at T but I keep a current LinkedIn profile and I am contacted regularly by employers and recruiters.
I wrote the earlier message about taking the MVO. I have no intention of filing for unemployment anyway. It's going to be a moot point because I'm really close to accepting a new job offer anyway.
It's going to be like getting a triple bonus this year.

I took the MVO. I didn't notice that before. Just checked the stub and you're right it says that on the description line item. I wonder if I can now try to collect unemployment. Interesting. Don't know what that means.
