Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

And expect to see this number exceeded this year

2019 was a very bad year for cable TV owners. We are now getting an idea of just how bad it was. We learned that AT&T lost over 4 million TV subscribers in 2019 when looking at DIRECTV, U-Verse TV, and AT&T TV NOW.

no it uses multiple sources and has its own web crawler. so it is a true search engine and doesn't need to use yahoo or bing. it is much more private.

Ya you do - DuckDuckGo is a proxy not a search engine

Back in the day there were dozens of upstart search engines - the market place took care of that. Today who uses anything much other than google/bing/yahoo?

The overcrowded Streaming market will suffer the same fate - the market is brutally efficient at correcting these shifts in paradigms.

Is T innovative/nimble/agile/lean enough to survive the correction? I seriously doubt it. The management from the board on down are seasoned experts at digging up roads for cable and building towers all at a glacial pace.

I’ll bet google does not have a surplus department- just saying

Cord cutting unfortunately has been taken over by the industry. It will not cost less than traditional cable and internet service. Sure you can beat the price with hd over the air reception. Nothing has really changed except now we have smaller devices we can hook up to Wifi and watch on the go. Like the previous poster said it comes down to service and att isn’t at the top of that list. So glad I don’t give my money to randy and Stankey aanymore.

People will want who gives the best customer service and att is no where the top of that list.

No need to worry, according to the leadership, as soon as they basically change the name of their streaming service from DirecTV Now to AT&T TV Now this trend will magically reverse.
Add in the HBO Max product that will practically be given away to attract users and it's clear to see they have a recipe for success! :/

The industry is facing the harsh reality that it is being financially adjusted to its true value to the customer. Entertainment clearly is not worth as much to the consumer as the entertainers, producers, and transporters feel it is worth. Simple supply and demand at work. T will either adjust to this new value trend or it will fold.

The guys aren't really relying on CableTV as much, there not stupid, they've been aware of the cordcutter trend for the last 5 years or so. It's all about broadband and keep those rates going up

Cable is something that people buy when they have solid employment and positive consumer confidence. It’s one of the first things to get axed when belt tightening occurs. When (not if) I ultimately get the axe and no longer get DirecTV at the employee price, I will drop it like a hot potato. I get over 40 channels with a tiny antenna hidden behind the drapes. And I have several other free alternatives.

The company can’t expect to have it both ways. Laying off the middle class while simultaneously expecting to be supported by them. And in fairness, it’s not just T. A lot of companies are going to have to come to this realization.

Don’t generalize about cable operators it was mostly att which was by design by our fearless leaders. Some companies have direction and know who they are and want ALL customers. This cord cutters site sure has a lot of att news and makes me wonder who is the money behind the site.
