Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Is it true there'll be more layoffs this week?

Heard some rumors and now I can't sleep once again. Any chance they are false?

@xhn+13dqnr5X There are plenty of jobs out there for persons with the right skill sets with full benefits, some better that T. I matched my pay when I left T, was provided a company vehicle and was able to negotiate additional vacation. I’m 58.

HR has been hosting a weekly call for the surplussed folks every week for several years now and it is usually over loaded with callers.

They are well aware that they are laying off younger faster workers while the older workers hang in due to seniority...Which is a Union Right. They have been green lighted to hasten the departure rate of the more senior techs.

I work with numerous managers who have over 40 years and most are lazy while we constantly laying off the future of our company. Something wrong from what I see.

Mc El fresh told IoT there will be layoffs every quarter this year. I guess that goes for the whole org under him too. Like his boss Stank y said “no place is safe”.

Overheard a union head say that there were going to be management and employee surpluses every quarter in 2020. Our unit already surplused two managers last week.

On any given day if the sun rises and/or sets then there is the distinct possibility of layoffs at AT&T.

Sorry @tkb+13dqnr5X, but at first the outsourced company of our hR could not handle it, they have scaled up and learned from the recent push to kick everyone out. Now they are poised to make hay while the sun is still shining.

My friend who is 57 got surplussed last week. This person is not exactly a boomer and has anywhere from 10 years to 15 years left in the work force. I didn’t have the heart to tell this person that the rest of their career would be be doing temp and contact work with no benefits.

this is not sane. we have threads like this every week. imagine the psychological damage that the worker has to endure. nuts.

It's a very quiet process unless it is either a major impact to an organization or the surplus takes out some union positions. A small number of management were notified last week to be off payroll no later than end of March but it's not making news because so few were affected.

AT&T has too many baby boomers working and earning 2-3Xs more than an entry level employee. With this imbalance, the older employee reaches a point where they must go - either through layoff, retirement or unlikely for a baby boomer, other employment.

The problem for AT&T is when the older employee doesn't retire. Then AT&T management must find a way to eliminate them either by reducing their positions and making life miserable until they quit or eliminate their positions all together and surplus them. Since the retirement packages across the companies are incredibly different, those with little benefit to their personal retirement, will stay and wait for the surplus to have something to walk with.

I strongly encourage all the boomers if they don't have a good retirement package, wait for the surplus because inevitably, it will be yours!

Surplus is common at att. It is an easy fix for an executive who can't quite make their numbers. The day after surplus meeting I attended, the hr person stated that att usually has a surplus occurring somewhere.

13dqnr5X - Spoken like the true HR employee that you are. If they would just outsource your group we may all be better off. The HR Organization is just puppets controlled by the Legal Organization. Legal tells HR all the right words to say and write so there will be no law suits. How do I know this? I was on the distribution end of those messages. I hated it so much, it forced me to leave as I saw we were getting rid of so many good people. I would tell the HR Leadership Team "We've already removed all the low performers from the business" HR's response - We've cut down to the bone and now we must cut into the bone. SO SAD!!! I left after a great career with plenty of money but I hate seeing how all employees (Craft & Management) are being treated these days, they will never get to ride into the sunset like myself and others.

Yes remember your great leader said there is no safe place. What a great environment so productive to have threats free m your leader and is so good for the company.

13dqnr5X- sorry not realistic, HR could not handle that volume, usually they can only do one surplus event at a time, so reality is next one would be after the March off payroll of current IVO, I would suspect about every 6 months an event, I will leave on this one so don't care but just trying to not have everyone panic thinking it will be every 2 weeks

normally, yes, it never stops, and has only escalated, now with 2020 and the pedal is to the metal, I'd say we may see an announcement of surplus, MVO or Outsource/rebadge at least once every two weeks
