I am a 3rd Generation Licensed Outfitter in Colorado. It’s an honored and very tough title to work for and attain. For your company to arbitrarily call your bunch of clueless hunting and fishing counter help “outfitters” is an insult to all true Outfitters. Get Real or better yet give up!!!!

We need to start opening more businesses, not closing them. Our economy cannot handle this! People need to be conscious of their surroundings. If you need to go to the store, go by yourself. Go for what you need and leave. Just wait until businesses do start to re-open. Many will never reopen.

This is in response to the post about the one c#$%y lead that stays on the phone the entire shift and the other that stays in the back room. While these two leads should be taken to task, they are a direct reflection of their manager. When this type of behavior is completely ignored it builds frustration among associates and enables resentment to fester in the department. Managers that are loathe to confront issues like these quickly lose respect. Instead of worrying about being Mr. or Mrs. Congeniality, fix the issue! Put some effort into the actual development of your associates. Mr. Morris if you care for your associates as much as you profess to then perhaps it's time to take an internal look at how business is being conducted at the store level. You may be surprised.

I’m happy for the chance to be working and making money. I feel like closing would only add to my problems, unemployment would be a short band aid and then I’d be trying to fend for myself. I work with a lot of coworkers who feel the same. A lot can be done at the store level. We have put up plexiglass barriers at checkout, outfitters are allowed to wear masks and most customers have been appreciative for our service. Associates here have been able to take furlough if they feel uncomfortable about working and will be able to apply for unemployment.

I'm glad to know the 3+ years of service and 2,000+ lines of credit I've established for the company are appreciated and that the company is concerned for my safety and well-being. Ha!

To The BP Lead that cares
Good for you! And I speak for many of us that aren’t blessed with a lead that care about anything but themselves.... So thank you Lead
When you Lead it’s means LEAD
Problem with this position is any KID off the street can apply for this position with no experience or hands on experience. All you get is a C—y Punk that leaves early, that’s on his phone 💯 of the time. Then you have others that stay in the back to void work the entire night when he is even there that is.
Bottom line here is this Company is Weak.... But look who your owner is......

Since Bass Pro is an essential business due to the fact that they sell guns and ammo, then shut down every department of every Bass Pro/Cabela stores in the country. Only keep open the guns department. Lay off as many people as you can so they can collect unemployment. This should eliminate the majority of customers coming into the stores. Then only those essential buyers for guns and ammo should be coming in the front door. Give the gun department employees the protection that they need; face masks, gloves and hand sanitizer. And pay them extra for working. That would be the right thing to do. I challenge you Johnny Morris to do right by your employees.

We need the unemployment option. Simply put we are not essential. Customers do not need to bring their kids and grandkids in and walk around. Elderly do not need to be walking around aimlessly. Any way you look at it, by keeping our doors open we are honestly just contributing to the spread of covid.

How is it that Johnny Morris can give Hatai a million dollars and he can't even give his employees Easter day off. He reduces wages while other companies give their employees increases.

Can someone help me out. If I choose to not come to work for a few weeks but I am not given a furlough. Will I still have insurance if I pay my share of the premiums while I am out?

To the person who said they did not want to come across as harsh: I understand what you were trying to say. However Illinois has always been and still is primarily ruled by the Democrats. Why haven’t they come to their senses and realize firearms and ammunition are not essential? The federal government has deemed firearms as essential however, they also stated it is an individual choice of each state whether to have them essential or not. This is not a democrat or a republican issue. The issue here is poor representation by our politicians both Republican and Democrat. Typical Illinois. The politicians want the power but, really don’t stand up for the people no matter what party their affiliated with. The Illinois governor is just as much to blame as anyone else for his poor stay at home order details. He could have worded the stay at home order in a different manner so the firearms and ammo were not deemed essential.

I work in one of the distribution centers and have seen the types of merchandise being sold. Customers are ordering merchandise that in no way, resembles essential items. We are all risking exposure to this virus so Johnny can make a buck on a pair of socks, a boat seat, a pair of shoe, etc, etc. (Anything but essential). I know we are not forced to report to work, but if we want to provide for our families, we must work due to Bass Pros refusal to furlough the mass of their outfitters. In order to provide for our families we must risk their health. There are multiple employees at our facility that have underlying health issues, have used their sick time, vacation days and must now choose between risking their health or having no income. For gods sake, shut it down, give us a chance get unemployment AND keep our families safe. The customers will still be there when this situation is alieviated, IF BASS PRO hasn't contributed to them contracting COVID 19.

I really don’t intend this thought to be harsh, especially in these circumstances, but this will undoubtedly come across that way.

I’m not sure what you can expect from 2 GOP state reps in a pretty affluent area of a right-to-work state like Illinois to do for you. They are doing exactly what they were voted in to office to do: leave people to their own devices in pursuit of the American dream, with little to no safety net. So zing this comment all you want, but this is the reality. This is not my opinion, this is the stated stance of who you voted for, and of their party at large. You like it plenty when things are going fine, but now you wish they’d come to your aid. They almost certainly will not, by definition. It is what it is. This cannot be a surprise to you. I feel for you, and I hope things work out. But you’ll have to do that for yourself.

I wrote many days ago I have not heard from my state representative David McSweeney (Illinois House District 52) and Dan McConchie (Illinois Senate District 26). I still have not heard from them or their offices and it has been over two weeks now., Are they cowards? Are they incompetent? Are they in the pocket of Bass Pro/Cabela's? Or are they safe at home with their families as we also should be? I have always voted for these two everytime they were on the ballot. Not anymore. Not ever again. They are not representing the abused during this crisis. Shame on them! This is why politicians get a bad reputation. They should have the guts to at least acknowledge my correspondence in a time of need.

I have lost all hope. At this point I do not see Bass Pro/Cabela's closing up nationwide. Even though what they have are doing to us as employees is unforgivable , they will never close up. I will have to make a choice between continuing to work there and get a paycheck (and possible coronavirus) and quitting and not getting a paycheck and losing my health care insurance for myself and my family. No one should have to make this kind of decision during times like this. I continue to be baffled as to why no one is coming to our aid. Can someone explain what I am missing?

I was called Saturday and told I was going to be furloughed for at least 2 more weeks. I was called today and told we are opening back up next Monday. I am so confused. I guess opening back up during what is predicted to be one of the worse weeks for the Untied States is a great idea. This company is out of control. I am working on my resume right now because my life is more important than Johnny's money. I am ashamed to work for such a greedy, uncaring, SOB. I hope karma bites Johnny in the butt. Bass pro and Cabelas employees are way too good (well most of us anyway) to be working for someone like him. I hope when all this is over we all have enough sense and courage to make a change in our lives and leave this company. Prayers for you all.

Got furloughed a couple days ago then got a call today saying we are opening back up. People coming in supposed to he home but nothing to do bored let’s go to bass pro and not buy anything since the economy is dead and no one has money lets go waste some time and spread the virus. Screw that. Bass pro and Cabalas can’t open without us there. Lasting effects research is showing not only loss of lung function but the virus infects the heart muscle as well. Johnny going to pay my Pulmonologist’ and Cardiologist? He going to pay me the rest of my life when my health is so bad I can no longer work. I don’t see Johnny doing anything that honorable when he doesn’t care about what happens to us now. WALKOUT!!! DON’T SUPPORT THIS GREED. It is irresponsible. Take care and God bless,

To anyone who was furloughed, I have a question. If you were previously receiving health insurance through BPS, are they allowing you to receive continued coverage? If so, are they paying for it? If so, at what level? The full amount they did previously? I'm nervous about losing health insurance benefits more than anything and I don't trust this company. Any answers would be appreciated.

Instead of everyone commenting on here(which is fine too), everyone needs to flood springfield with letters. Send one a day and share with everyone in your store. Ask them to do the same. They are greedy at basecamp but they are also very ignorant and naive. They need to hear this directly and repeatedly! After you send letters to Springfield, send them to the media as well. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE flood them with letters.

So I work at the white river marine plant in Missouri, I was recently laid off do to order cuts and lack of equipment to build boats the current position there in there working with a 1/10 of there regular stuff do to the production shortage. The people that are currently working there are not getting paid extra and are told that they are essential do to making transportation. So if we were told a month ago that stock was full why are those people still working and risking it all?

Just my opinion but Johnny Morris and his lawyers have covered their rich butts from being sued by any outfitter. They sent out an email stating that the outfitters could stay home if they felt they needed to in order to stay healthy. It also said that the attendance policy would be waived so that the outfitters would not receive any points against them due to calling out. With all that being said, I have read that some outfitters have been fired due to calling out but I can not confirm that.

I consider myself lucky that I was furloughed from work. I just hope I was not lied to during the furlough meeting and they will call me back to work once this is all over with.

No customer can sue due to the fact that they would not be able to determine where they were infected. Pretty sure that if someone is going in to Bass Pro Shops or Cabela's, they are going to other stores that remain open.

Read the article and something that stuck out to me was that some locations have switched to ONLY selling guns & ammo.

If an associate who was working at different location in a different state with no restrictions on what they can purchase, let's say, in the footwear dept., and they got infected, could one potentially sue?

This is a hypothetical but, there are associates who don't work in hunting sales & with the wandering around of bored people who CAN'T STAY HOME, I'm afraid that an employee or myself could get sick because little action (in my opinion) has been done to protect employees & communities.

Feel free to chime on on this.

Not sure why the attached link to the FORBES article isn't working, but you could copy and paste or just Google "Forbes Bass Pro Essential Business" . People are starting to pay attention and question whether Bass Pro should be open. It's worth the read!

PEOPLE ARE STARTING TO PAY ATTENTION!!! Although the attached FORBES article doesn't reveal ALL the facts (working conditions, mistreatment of employees, neglecting customer safety, etc.). the news media is starting to call attention to the fact that Bass Pro is fighting to stay open despite an ALMOST nationwide stay-at-home order. Keep speaking up and making your voices heard! Eventually, the ENTIRE truth will he told!!!!!! https://www.forbes.com/sites/laurendebter/2020/04/03/bass-pro-shops-cabelas-essential-business-gun-store-coronavirus/#5daf2e333807

Has anyone seen or heard from our Store Manager mr Stevens. He’s been out for 2 weeks. Rumors say he’s got it. That’s so scarey. How many of us or customers was he with. Wish him the best but the company needs to think about us and customers.

I have heard so many different stories on this site. NRA is making Bass Pro stay open due to second amendment rights? At this point and time I think what we are seeing is that the company has been suffering since the purchase of Cabela’s. Our stores are very large and have grown all across this country. Along with the additional Cabela’s stores that were inherited. Unless they get the big boys to come together and start running this once wonderful company they will further decline. With the new guidelines reducing pay, more work for less people. If they make it through this pandemic they will be losing a lot of good associates. Quit acting like our politicians and get it together boys. Doesn’t matter if your BPS or Cabela’s. Doesn’t look good on the company for putting so many people at risk. Customers as well as associates. I would also like to see them send the big boys out to the stores and experience what we all have. Half of them have never been on our level. Lessons learned. I don’t think we will make it after all is said and done. We the workers have family and friends who can’t believe the doors are still open. We didn’t ruin the company! Corporate is ruining the company !!!!!

A bunch of us at my store were put on furlough for at most 90 days but I’ve heard a rumor that apparently came from higher ups that if furlough lasts 20-31 days then 70% of the workers will be permanently let go

So, if you work at Bass Pro you also know that they do not wipe down their guns and the stores are dirty. They also hire way too many managers that schedule themself at 7:00 am, and they sit in the back room and gossip.
No one checks what other managers do—- unprofessional, lazy, and incapable of working weekends.
This is form of stealing.

Super inspired by the below message! If I didn't have outfitters to take care of because you're safe at home I'd walk out. I've watched people I love laid off, I've taken on extra duties with no extra pay, I'm showing up everyday trying to actually be a true servant leader as this company has said they believe in....and this is what I get when the whole world is falling down??? Since I can't say it openly I'll say it here @#$&&# you! When I can leave, when this is all over, and take my team with me. You can bet I'll be forwarding you my exit interview, sharing it on social media, and every single job site because you can't fire someone whose already gone!

"Good Afternoon,

Effective with the workweek beginning on April 5, 2020, your salary will be reduced by %. Aside from this change to your compensation, the terms and conditions of your employment and benefits will not change. You will be expected to continue to meet the duties and responsibilities of your position, and there should be no change to the quality or quantity of your work as a result of this reduction."
