Managers in Chicago told technicians that it is their responsibility to provide their own supplies in order to prevent the spread of Covid19 while on the job and were told that janitorial services were to be suspended as well in all garages. Area managers and first level field managers directed communications to their field technicians that no matter what, National emergency or quarantine, that they were to report to work as business as usual and all absences will carry discipline up to and including 29 days pending termination this is in the South side, West side, Indiana and Northern to northwest Chicago Areas.

Per OSHA rules & regulations it IS THE COMPANIES RESPONSIBILITY TO PROVIDE THE EQUIPMENT, TOOLS, TRAINING & SUPPLIES in providing a SAFE work environment. This is the cost to play in the big leagues. $5 x 1000 techs x 1(per week) @ min 4 week supply =$20,000 and multiply this by the rest of the company. Remember a surplus was all anyone was talking about until now now why would I buy it again. Remember stank just said we’re feeding too many mouths, this is the leadership.
Given the reaction to Tucker Carlson's segment on T outsourcing, you should go to local media on your working condition. Management knows if the public is aware of their lack of civility dealing with us that customers won't buy from AT&T out of principle. Workers have principles which top managers DO NOT HAVE

If I need hand sanitizer, I’ll buy it. No big deal as long as I can find it and I’m not getting price gouged. The problem is that we have never had an issue getting sanitizer until right now. Upfront literally says you can’t order it because of Covid-19. All of the buildings in this area (I’m in the SE) are filthy and have been for a long time because they have cut janitorial to once a month. Actions speak louder than words Randall.

I saw no shortage of hand sanitizer at Target last night. Another novel idea as well....Have you thought about hand soap and water?? Crazy right! Pretty sure that per EH&S guidelines you are supposed to keep your water casket/cooler (assuming you are a union tech here based on your responses) full of water each day so you can wash your hands with soap and water. If you are an inside employee, do you not have access to running water and a sink so you can use a bar of disinfecting soap (dial or equivalent) to wash your hands? Just throwing some ideas around here.....
To @1vla+13WlTFmL: do you live in the real world? Have you looked for that $5 hand sanitizer in the store recently? In addition to the shelves being empty of toilet paper, there has been no hand sanitizer ( or even ingredients to make your own) or antibacterial wipes for more than a week. Can’t find in stores or online anywhere. Not saying whether or not T should be responsible for providing, but you sure as hell can’t find it if you want to provide it to yourself

No @mbu, you are absolutely not immune to Coronacirus-19. This is a new virus to the human race that we have never encountered before and nobody has immunity to it. It is highly contagious and potentially deadly. That's why we need an effective corporate response that protects our employees and the customers they interact with.
So far, our department has heard nothing. Despite what HR may say, our managers out here in the real world know nothing and have heard nothing from this company regarding coronavirus practices.

To the poster from the depths of “”HR”” just because it’s policy means it followed?? No, not here. After all employees within Chicago, the techs are wrote up with warnings or other “stepped discipline” after returning from all approved disability absences. No matter what, rotator cuff, carpal tunnel, back, neck, knee or any other medical reasoning. Workers company, disability including all approved instances with legitimate medical issues. So this accomplishes multiple things for the company; it’s a deterrent to legitimate employees seeking medical treatment, steps employees up in discipline and withholds technicians from going to Uverse in the ongoing surplus and layoffs. So you say this is against protocol, it may be, but remember this is Chicago.
After working in manholes every day for the last couple of decades, hand sanitizer is the least of my worries. I imagine that I’m immune to about everything now.

Not a troll - asked my Supe about what to do as a Prem Tech if I have a bad feeling about some household I am standing inside of. My area has two colleges with a large number of Chinese and Korean students , a lot of rich people who travel, old Boomer retirees who take cruises and winery owners who just came back from Italy.
Am I supposed to be interrogate them on their recent travels - ask who they met - where they have been - who is the exchange student in the back bedroom?
My area already has over 10 verified Covid-19 cases. The County Health Director publicly stated he thinks there are "dozens of unreported cases"
I really don't want to get deathly sick or die because some twat wants dial tone or TV.
What I got from my Supe was a lecture on Dispatch Efficiency and don't cancel, hold or reschedule any jobs.

As someone who works in HR I can say this is either bad information or lack of knowledge but I know for sure it’s false. There’s even a policy on HR OneStop now that outlines the companies policies on absences. I encourage everyone to read it. Depending on your circumstance you could get up to 80 hours.
