Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

COVID-19 and Retail/IHX

Anyone know what the plans are to protect employees? Stores get hundreds of people a day and IHX guys go into peoples homes everyday. With the Travel ban to Europe and NBA cancelling their season will we still have to interact with customers? Will they let us stay home and give us quota relief? Anyone in the know?

I had a customer cough on me last year, snot and all. It was distgusting. Took 1 day and I was sick and gave it to my whole staff at my store. Customers these days are distgusting and have little hygiene. I could not call out sick due to the fact we do not have any real " sick " time. Therefore, I transmitted it to my whole store due to the proximity of us all and the duration that we work.

MK and her direct reports are clueless as well. Not all the employees under them are needed in an office or in the field for critical day to day work but yet we’re lumped in with them. Employees are scared and upset!! “Just follow your local guidelines”, they say, but when they’re shutting down schools in your city/county and businesses in your area have told their employees to work at home I’d think it’s time to follow suit.

I haven't been to any high risk countries recently, but as an installer / repair technician I go into numerous filthy houses full of numerous potentially sick customers every day. That's high risk, not just for our technicians getting sick but for the already sick ones coming to work to avoid progressive discipline who will then be spreading the virus to customers they interact with every day.

So far, NOTHING has been said to technicians regarding this company's plans for them and their customers and the Coronavirus. No safety equipment, no masks, gloves or sanitizing equipment has been provided.

I have dealt with customers who have traveled to these quarantined areas and I have been having a cough and chills off and on for two weeks. Been told I would be pointed for missing a day.

This is straight from the CDC website

COVID-19 is a new disease and (we are still learning how it spreads, the severity of illness it causes, and to what extent it may spread in the United States).

How COVID-19 Spreads
Person-to-person spread
The virus is thought to spread mainly from person-to-person.

Between people who are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet).
Through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes.
These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs.

Do you know the method of transmission? Someone would have to cough on you, or have some personal interaction that included touching. This is not an airborne virus. Calm down. Be sensible, wash frequently with soap, act as you would.

I’m just wondering what do you think any company that services the public response should be to a pandemic? Hold all products and services? Give everyone an unlimited amount of paid leave until the pandemic clears? Unfortunately the Governments’ failure to contain the coronavirus means it may be here to stay for A long duration of time. The uncertainty of the when this Pandemic May come to a end only leaves everyone including companies one choice and that is to deal with situations as they arise. If someone test positive for Covid19 at a particular location, close that location for a particular amount of time and only allow employees to come back once he or she is cleared by a medical professional (wash, rinse, repeat these steps as many times as necessary). Wishing for anything other than that is unrealistic.

Coronavirus (COVID-19): What we’re doing & what you need to know

To: All AT&T Corporate, AT&T Communications and AT&T Latin America employees based in the U.S.

What we do is critical to the infrastructure of life. When people need us most, we show up. That’s what we do. It’s who we are. It’s how we demonstrate one of our values – “Be There” – in action.

Keeping ourselves healthy is the first step to helping our customers stay connected.

That’s why we want to let you know what we’re doing to monitor coronavirus (COVID-19) across the world and how we’re acting quickly to respond to local needs.

Caring for Employees in Quarantine
We are providing limited, excused paid time off for anyone who may need to self-quarantine (and cannot work from home) for one of the following reasons:

Are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms
Tested positive for COVID-19
Have been exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19
Have recently returned from a high-risk country (Level 3 as defined by the CDC) or live with someone who has.
Submit request for limited, paid time off here.

Work-from-Home Guidelines for COVID-19 and Frontline Preventative Measures
We will notify you if we institute specific work-from-home guidelines in your local area. And, for employees in jobs where they cannot work from home and may be considered at a higher risk for COVID-19, we will provide limited, excused paid time off. We will institute these local guidelines based on various factors, including local health authority advisories.

We are asking our employees in customer-facing roles or those that require onsite presence to take appropriate preventative measures – no matter their work location.

School Closures for COVID-19
We know that schools and daycares are closing, and some of you are having to make alternative work arrangements – or even to miss work – to care for your children. We are providing limited, excused paid time off for parents and legal guardians who need time off if a school or daycare closes. Submit request here.

AT&T can change these temporary policies at any time, without advance notice.

Other Key Reminders
If you start to feel sick, please contact your medical provider first and reach out to your supervisor to make the necessary arrangements before reporting to work.
We’ve restricted international business travel and discourage other business travel.
As you consider personal travel, please prepare to take appropriate preventative measures – and review the CDC and World Health Organization websites for the latest guidance.
If you’ve returned from a high-risk country, you are expected to self-quarantine for 14 days. These currently include China, South Korea, Italy, and Iran – defined by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as Level 3.
Meet with vendors virtually, whenever possible.
Discourage personal visitors to any work location.
Look out for scammers: If you receive a suspicious message about COVID-19 on a work device, please report it to the AT&T Chief Security Office.

We appreciate everything you are doing to keep our customers connected – and to care for yourself and each other. Thank you.

PLEASE READ: LATEST ON COVID-19 – March 5, 2020

To: All AT&T Corporate and AT&T Communications employees

We recently had a retail store employee in San Diego receive a “presumptive” positive test for the COVID-19 virus. The positive test has not yet been confirmed by the CDC. This employee recently returned from personal travel within a high-risk region (currently China, South Korea, Italy and Iran) as defined by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) as Level 3. This employee and several of their colleagues will self-quarantine for 14 days. True to our values, we’ll “Be There” for our colleagues.

Yesterday we closed and deep cleaned several stores in the area that this employee or colleagues in close contact to this employee may have visited recently. Those stores will reopen today.

As our team responds to potential and confirmed cases within our workforce, we will continue to act quickly and prioritize the health and safety of our employees, customers and everyone involved.

Here’s how you can help – PLEASE READ

We want to underscore how important it is for all employees to follow our new travel guidelines and preventative measures.
Please prioritize your health and well-being by following these preventative measures:
Important: Contact your supervisor or HR business partner if you have recently traveled to or live with someone who has traveled to someone who has traveled to high-risk regions (currently China, South Korea, Italy and Iran) defined by the U.S. Center for Disease Control as level 3. You are expected to self-quarantine for 14 days upon your return. Your supervisor along with HR can help you make alternative work arrangements.
Also, use good judgement on upcoming personal travel. If you or someone you live with visit an area listed as Level 3 by the CDC, you will be expected to self-quarantine for 14 days upon your return.
If you start to experience symptoms of fever, cough and shortness of breath or other flu-like symptoms, please contact your medical provider immediately and your supervisor to make the necessary arrangements before reporting to work.
It’s important to adhere to health authority instructions when making individual decisions regarding your ability to report to work safely as scheduled. Stay in contact with your supervisor.
Please exercise increased caution when traveling or commuting, in general.
Practice every day hygiene measures to help prevent the spread of not only the coronavirus, but also the flu and colds.
We’re regularly updating our FAQs and encourage you to visit the Employee Resources & Recommendations website for the latest information.

None, have you forgot who it is that runs AT&T? But rest assured I would bet a first line managers 2020 bonus check that randy and company are locked up in their mansions and working from home until the storm subsides.
