- 9 years as a Service Tech split between POTS and dedicated ADSL/Broadband team (yep, back when Bellsouth had those)
- 5 years as a Digital Technician in Special Services
- 1 year as a Digital Technician in C&E-DEG
- 5 years as a Network Manager in Business Field Services (Specials/ABFS)
- 1.5 years as a C&E-DEG Manager
- 1 year as a 2nd level IC5 in national staff and counting
I am CompTIA A+, N+ and S+ and working on my CCNA R&S and I’m educated and driven and contrary to your comments, knowledgeable and extremely aware of how compromised union employees are in a modern workforce. I have worked on and around fiber cable and all ancillary hardware and software for the past 20+ years as well. Remove yourself from the comfortable union bubble and get acclimated to real life.
Not nearly enough and nowhere near soon enough, do away with anything union, they are the cause of this companies demise as well as gave us Covid-19
Trust me...almost 20 years fiber experience....novices are the reason our fiber network is butchered! Pronto and the vrad build prompted ATT to bulk up the fiber crews and turn loose techs that were way to GREEN and in the midst of deadlines....they butchered the network. A GOOD fiber tech is worth his weight in gold!! Another stupevisor....running his mouth, that doesn’t have a clue what he’s talking about!
Modern union employees simply amaze me. They are intentionally kept away from and denied access to the critical infrastructure in our core and wireless networks, but think they have their hands on everything. Almost no new deployment of complex electronics in the access (local) loop in favor of passive (GPON) fiber means you don’t have to have a lot of knowledge/intelligence to perform the work anymore. Nobody cares about the 100 year old metallic access plant (copper) anymore and it doesn’t take a genius to splice fiber (mostly manual labor) as the test equipment and fusion splicing equipment has matured to the point that even a novice user can get it right most of the time with limited experience. All of that plus the billions that AT&T has spent on automated provisioning, testing and dispatch solutions in the last 20 years, has really devalued the union employees worth. Maybe not all, (Some inside positions and business ops still require a highly desired skill set) but most union employees today, especially in the outside workforce, are just manual labor workers with fancy job titles that make a ridiculously high wage for the complexity (or should I say NOT complex) of the work they are performing.
No, not at all,@vws. The company is starting to smoke out the excess baggage in the non bargained ranks. If you don't have your hands working on the network, then you are at risk of being surplussed or out sourced. Which is is for for you @vws? Ribbit, says this toad.
It’s those union toads who are the ones that which built and maintain this Sh1_t$h0w which is what is called AT&T. Outages, overnight, weekends with their blood, sweat and tears. But I know you entitled worthless managers and “consultants” couldn’t even tell you what the letters AT&T actually stand for. Why do employees hate this company so much now? Well those folks know what is possible with good leadership and what keeps customers and that is what has been lost by all levels of “T” where is rural broadband? 5g? Not likely when you still can’t get 4g. Dropped calls, yes, many on T’s network. This company will end worse than ENRON. And they were both based on Dallas with many EX ENRON management going to work for T after the scandal.

I had a meeting today with a VP and was told big numbers. He said most will be prem tech and Directv. The manager numbers will reflect also.
