Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Don't get s---ered into the "gig workforce"

Basically, they're asking people to work for free on projects and calling it a "learning opportunity". If they've got a bunch of projects they need people to work on, let them hire someone to do the work.

Just the latest attempt to get something for nothing. Don't fall for it.

What are the so called "special opportunities"?? This is a voluntary program with special opportunities. No formal movement will take place via this program and no additional job-related compensation will be provided.

This will be very helpful. Anyone who has 32 extra hours in a week to volunteer for a gig project can be immediately "managed out of the business."

Targeted employees would have an email from "Capabilities Evolution", subject: "Capabilities Evolution invites you to learn more about the AT&T Gig Workforce!"

Explanation from the FAQ linked to that email:

  1. What is the AT&T Gig Workforce?

The AT&T Gig Workforce, powered by The Opportunity Marketplace (TOM), is a program focused on connecting motivated individuals, with an investment in the right skills, to highly valuable and meaningful project work. ATO domestic managers that are motivated to take on work beyond their current job can opt-in.

  1. What is the capacity and time commitment to participate in the AT&T Gig Workforce?

Participation in the AT&T Gig Workforce is completely voluntary. Typical time commitment is 8-10 hours a week but will vary based on opportunity and employee availability but no more than 32 hours a week and no more than 6 months. Exempt managers are expected to participate in this program on their own time so there is NO impact to day-to-day work. Any time worked by a Non-Exempt manager in the AT&T Gig Workforce must be approved by their supervisor and paid.

They also have employees working on company issues (e.g. cancelled orders) as a “side gig” that are not part of their job description as well. That could be a full time job for someone/some people!!

Gig assignment limits to 32 hours per week, wonder which mastermind came up with that magic number. They should throw into a 2 year contract, and double the hours in year 2, people will knock over one and other to sign up. Don’t forget to hype up the premiumness of the opportunities.
