Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Randall tanking AT&T

Intentionally so the stock drops enough for someone to come buy it up.

Who would get Government approval to buy AT&T and off load DirecTV?

A company that could use the TW assets and AT&T's Cellular/Wireline footprint as well as store fronts.

Amazon

"No one wants to own dilapidated att."
Oh, I like owning it. It pays a near 6% dividend. When looking at dividends, one has to look at the ability to pay the dividend. Well, AT&T paid the dividend AND they accelerated paydown of debt AND they managed to buy back some stock. Now, compare to Exxon Mobile (XOM) who borrowed to pay the dividend in 2019, on the assumption that 2020 will be a good year. I guess we can throw that theory out the window.
Between the dividend, accelerated paydown of debt, and stock buyback, I see the dividend last in line to be cut. AT&T is one of the few stocks I feel comfortable with (at the moment)

With Twitter - also the target of Elliott, at least they’re moving toward a workforce that’s increasingly remote (hope for us yet!):

  • Chief Executive Officer Jack Dorsey is a big proponent of remote work, and has already announced plans to spend as much as six months working from Africa in 2020. “While this is a big change for us, we have already been moving toward a more distributed workforce that’s increasingly remote,”

There are no buyers in line. Government receivership would be the outcome after T is run into bankruptcy.

I believe Elliott Management is steering the wheel now. Compare to Twitter, where Elliott has fielded 4 candidates for the board of directors. If AT&T's stock tanks, that will allow AT&T to buy more in its share buyback program.

Amazon is too smart to buy a company like AT&T
