Twitter and Amazon are among 31 of the largest global companies who have restricted travel or asked their employees to work remotely as a precaution against the novel coronavirus.
To safeguard employees from the outbreak, companies in Europe, Asia, and the US have started asking their employees to work from home as a precautionary measure.
Amazon also asked employees in its Seattle headquarters to work from home for the rest of March. There have been 10 deaths from the virus in Washington state.
Over in Austin, Texas, Indeed told employees to work from home until further notice to be cautious of the virus.
Facebook's employees in China are working from home, and the company stopped all non-essential travel to the country. Facebook also pulled out of SXSW in Austin, Texas, over concerns about the outbreak.

All you need to work remotely at Wells Fargo is high speed, secured internet and a Wells Fargo conference line number. There is no difference in the speed of processing between high speed internet service and being connected in a Wells Fargo office. People would have no idea that I was
telecommuting from home, or in the office, when they are co-workers located at other sites unless I inform them of that fact. I think they may guess that I am working in the building office when I am "away from desk" due to getting lunch at the company office building, etc.
Yes get with the program people! , many many thousands of people, both fte and contract, have been telecommuting for years at Wells and were hired as such. You're on your own in terms of setting up an office, supplies, monitor, high speed internet connection, phone, etc. People seem to think it's such a luxury! Lol not when they have you at their mercy day and night like a lot of the technology teams! Lots of hard workers working long hours. Just because you go into an office doesn't mean you're productive. If anything i find the exact opposite lots of times!
@2oth+13TKKpLV People don't "need" a docking station to work from home. Just plug your monitor, etc in using the laptop ports - it's not like we have to jump up every hour to bring them to meetings with us when you're wfh. If you have a ton of accessories, you could buy a USB hub for about $15.
I have 2 WF docking stations collecting dust in my closet right now because they sent them to me by default and I don't need them. Imagine if we were agile enough to have a process where I could send them back and someone else could use them instead. Oh, hahahahahahaha! That's rich.
@2oth+13TKKpLV - neither do regular telecommuters. The docking station is about all that Wells Fargo paid for besides the laptop. Most telecommuters are paying extra for the high sped internet needed to connect, the extra phone line, because we are on calls all day, decent sized monitors, the hardware to connect to those upgraded monitors. A small minority got in under the wire and have their monthly phone taken care of. That's it. Telecommuters are not in peaches and cream land. The company cheaps out on all of us.
There’s a big difference between people voluntarily working from home. Absolutely those people - if they don’t do their work - should not have a job. But what is happening this week is 1/3 to 1/2 of the company is being asked to work from home. Not everybody has a home office or has the environment, connectivity, or workspace (including PC setup with a docking station) conducive to work from home. Wells is not paying employees to pay for docking stations right now. This is a total mess.
Curious which teams/locations were given ok to work remotely for now due to virus. In mortgage we currently have 2 days allowed but havent gotten the go ahead to work remote all week yet. I think it would be wise for it to be rolled out to everyone in large campuses.
Getting rid of telecommuting is a hidden way to get rid of staff without having an actual reduction in force that would require government notification.
Productivity down? Certainly not due to telecommuting.
If so, the nonproductive people have no discipline. My team works ridiculous hours and are very productive. Lots of talent AND productivity.
To be honest, if you're not responsible enough to work remotely, then you're not responsible enough to have a job.
It's called work. So do your work no matter where you are. And stop giving telecommuting a bad rap. A few bad apples really can spoil the bunch.

Our team was told today you can start working from home for now during this coronavirus time.
I can’t remember a time when I didn’t hear someone hacking and coughing away at Wells Fargo, especially after the holidays at end of year. Lots of people headed home for a visit, and they pick up illnesses on airplanes, or from some family members or friends. Then they return to work and cough. That’s how it always is. But usually it is just a cold. Now it is something worse.
So if I am supposed to work at home if someone near me came in sick, then that would be always!
I watched to see if people cover their coughs in their elbows, and no, they just don’t. Just not a habit. So it happens. So if they have the virus and come into the office, it can easily spread especially since these new desks and cubes are close together. It is only a matter of time until we are like Biogen, with a large cluster of infected people.
Telecommuters are the strength of the company now, we need them, and many companies are ordering employees to work from home. Safeguarding knowledgeable, trained resources should be a business priority.
We should call a halt to this desk sharing flex cubes immediately- it is a health hazard. Aren’t we all supposed to be risk managers, according to our compliance training?
We were told to work from home if we are sick or if someone near us is sick. That's not really encouraging anyone to work from home that didn't already. So we will get to sit in a petri dish cube where other flex workers may have been gagging all over the previous day unless we have a need to do otherwise.
Charlie said in the hearing today that he will allow employees to work from home due to virus. Wonder when that starts? Do we have to be in a highly infected area before it begins?
For every 100 new accounts opened a new upgraded N95 respirator mask?

The teamworks article didn’t start out having a comments section, neither did the note about the BoD resignations. How does this keep the word from getting out? It just keeps people from saying very stupid things posted next to their real name. And people really do say some very stupid things.
The same people who can read the article can comment on it. And also send it to the press.

By that time, no one will show up in a branch. Which means management may as well just shut the branches down for a while - until the virus is dealt with.

The virus and stock market won't help location strategy neither. It cost $$$ to put more people in a building. I would imagine the company would spend more money and do share buyback to try to boost EPS (or make any loss less) and not bother with spending it on buildings or things like that.
One more nail in the coffin "location strategy" ... closer to say "RIP location strategy." (May be cheers in the background.)
I think that the Wells Fargo banking center employees should be provided with the upgraded N95 respirator masks so that the customers who will still walk into the banking centers will feel that they are somewhat protected from the corona virus spread. Also the banking center employees may feel a little safer that with such masks they will not be so vulnerable to acquiring corona virus from the general population that walks into the banking centers. This is a serious issue that needs to be addressed at all levels of the bank. Front line employees and customers will still need to interact. Or that behavior may just go away for a while as the corona virus spreads across the USA.
