I wouldn’t say craft thinks management is the enemy. Mainly it’s upper management that implements Ridiculous and stupid things and have no clue of what techs do every day! Lucky we do still care about our customers or the T would be have closed its doors years ago! How about spending some money to maintain our aging outside plant & continue with fiber build out not because your forced to. Copper is maxed out in speed, fiber is the future if you want everyone streaming TV service.

@3noi - What type of errors? CV or SES? big difference between how those are captured. No one said TRUE was the only test you have to run, that's why you use it with BBT to get the whole picture. You can do this!

True test passed, still taking massive errors! The test is a joke! Test failed running clean low errors.... Go figure?

Wifi in my house is non of anybodies but my own. All I wanted was a big dumb pipe that was the same speed every time I used it and Stankey and all the snake oil salesman could not even deliver on that so what is the purpose of att when they can’t even provide their supposedly core service.

@3szn - Lots of emotion and complaining in your post that with nothing factual to back it Up. Don’t get lost in the anger over compliance, which again is really what gets to you I bet. All the programs you list have limitations and faults, but every one has had a positive impact on customer service and large savings for the company , and plenty of data out there to back that up, Since you only see a small part of the business you wouldn’t know that, and that’s not your fault. On top of that many of your managers and directors do not have the experience to fix these issues either or explain them, but they certainly know how to beat you over the head with numbers about it so I get your frustration. Everyone has numbers to make, That’s not going to go away. Are you the type of person that you hate Anything that rolls out? That is hopefully not how you approach life. We get it that you are in the tech tribe and we are in the management tribe, so we are always the enemy, good thing a lot of us don’t think that way about you. I would bet that you approach politics in the same way. The problem with this approach is that the world is ever changing and I would bet there is plenty about your job, and factors that affect it that you don’t know. This company has its faults and it’s missteps, some of us just as frustrated as you, but many of us still put the customer first and that’s what it’s all about. Downvote away and godspeed.

@2bmo Fancies himself an engineer I bet he even thinks he's making a difference at the same pay rate as his peers who aren't a– lickers, LOL. Boys why don't we start listing all the tests and policies at&t has had techs do that have amounted to jack sh–. Lets start with HPNA testing, remember that garbage? Turns out it was always the garbage RG , STB and back end software/firmware that was a POS and now we come to find out techs weren't even using the correct compression fittings. Techs lost their jobs over this b—s— test. How about testing selt and having to call in or chat to authorize a ticket, remember that garbage? That resulted in absolutely nothing but that department that handled that getting shutdown because as it turns out the plant is a POS and T is unwilling to fix it. AB jacks....LOL this one is so funny I'll leave it at that. Bonded CSI, nuff said. Statusing pairs IE trying to find a pair, any pair that isn't sh– within a count to move a customer over to because T is unwilling to repair their plant and lord help you if you need 2 pairs because its a bonded account. How many of those statused sections have been repaired since that's been the whole point? Yeah I didn't think so.

True test is a waste of time. We have multiple other tests and testing that accomplishes the same thing

@lhn oh right we all forgot SBC was ahead of their time. /s

You were a bell company, you weren’t “great” at anything except collecting cash monthly.

@ 13RO9zRY you only hate the true test and WiFi map because they make you do them. Get over yourself lol. I bet you don’t understand even a quarter of what is being tested. The true test has been around since 2011 in one form or another as a script on the test set. The new version takes 90-180 seconds, probably because of all the complaints from people who ‘ain’t got no time for that’ . Please humble us all with your knowledge of how xdsl signaling works, I’m sure we will be in awe. To quote south park ‘ der takin er jobs’.

Bellsouth was micromanaging people and treating all of their employees like criminals long before they were acquired by SBC. Now they just do it more than they used to.

We wanted Cingular. CEO offered everything. They didn’t have the size or money to compete with the cable companies. As such they did a pretty good job of of modifying older systems to squeeze everything out of them. Smith forced some things down everyone’s throat when he took over Network i.e. MSOC. Saw some things I would have rather mimicked versus that system.

That's what happens when you have a company that's too big to manage while at the same time run by complete id–ts. This company is a perfect example of why monopolies are a very bad thing for a society.

I bet T thinks they have the best internet, plant and WiFi from all the fake TRU tests and fake WiFi map tests techs upload everyday just to get around stupid atlas and wfe. That’s what happens when you add more tasks for the same amount of time and same pay, techs find a way to dupe the system to keep moving. Ain’t no body got time for that!

I think WiFi mapping and true testing is an effort to ensure quality in home WiFi to the att tv set top boxes of future customers . Also all of the bell companies had outstanding customer service. There was no competition, it was a cost+ business. Once they were deregulated and had to compete the Wall Street wh–es appeared and telephone people disappeared. The rest is history.

Customers in the SE(at least) have a passionate hatred of T that was never before seen with Bellsouth. Not sure if the hatred is tied in to T's poor cell service along with their awful call center customer service on the wired side or not. I can just tell you that people make it a point to walk up to my truck(or see my T uniform shirt) and tell me how much they hate T. Now, I try my best to go nowhere I don't have to in a T truck or uniform. I avoid restaurants while at work and only go in stores after work if it's an emergency pickup for the family. You don't tell people you work for T. All of this was never the case when working for the bell.

Bellsouth Communications Systems was a profit center and separate business unit selling , installing , and repairing PBX
And key systems within bellsouth Corp. It made net profits every year for the parent company. Customer service was outstanding. That is , until SBC bought it and made it a cost center. For the first time and ever since , that unit was in the red because sbc fired most of sales and moved BCS from its superior software apps and supply chain to SBC’s lousy applications and supply chain. SBC is run so incompetently; that much is clear to those of us who care from superior Bellsouth. Them’s just da faqs jack.

how dare anyone disrespect the great bell south... with their default passwords on their core network components and complete lack of any automated fail over on critical enterprise services. Anyone with any real network architecture experience quickly realized how far behind bell south was when they were assimilated. Keep on pushing that "Bell South was the best" narrative though. You just make the rest of us that actually know how to design networks laugh.

I remember the constant barrage of complaints on DSLreports about slow speeds, problems with DSLAM aggregation and laughably designed rings that would become massively unbalanced because they weren't engineered properly. That's what I remember when bellsouth was dragged into the family. But hey, maybe they had some good pots service.
