Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Re-Badging questions

I am from the retail side, and I want to understand the rebadging process more.

A lot of “knowledge” transfer is being required between our COR RSMs/ARSMs, and authorized retail RSMs/AR district managers.

After watching FOX last night, I believe a mass re-badging of COR employees (to PRIME AR) is very likely to take place soon, in order to avoid paying them severance. (Then PRIME will fire everyone after).

When they “rebadge” an employee, do they give them a choice of severance VS being rebadged?

Do you keep your same pay / benefits?

Rebadging is for management or At will employees. I doubt it applies to COR retail

I don’t think rebadging would happen in cor retail. If they wer to decide to sell a store to one of their agents, then the buyer may offer employment to all permanent store employees to include reps and maybe the manager. Reps would be terminated per the union contract from company perspective. Managers may or may not be offered other positions, if they are surpluses they get all benefits of that.

These rebadged employees do not get severance and the only choice was to accept the position or quit.

These are called a year and a day deals where they will likely be laid off by their new employer as soon as the contractual time is up.

My apologies for not being clear-

I was referring to the COR Store managers + Area Mangers.

The reps would be reassigned to stores that remained opened. Probably why we are all so short staffed now.

I don't think COR retail can be rebadged. Union would not go for that at all.

Rebadge is 12 months of work is not severance!! It’s work. And it’s a terrible thing for any company to do.

@buo - “you really get 12 months severance when rebadged vs 6 months when you are surplus, so yes you have to train your replacement but at least get 12 months more work“
Totally not the same thing- NOTHING like severance, since you have to actually keep working! So you work for a company for a year, telling someone else what you already know, and learning nothing, then are out a job with about 1-2 weeks pay.
Much rather be surplused than rebadged !

It's not 12 months of severance, it's 12 months of work with strings attached. If you quit early you will not receive the retention payment they promise you, you probably are losing your bonus money already (since it's unlikely your new employer actually pays a bonus, even if they claim one, see: IBM), your health benefits are probably more expensive and worse (though that's probably about to happen to AT&T too so this one may be a wash). Oh, and since you have to actually work instead of look for a job you probably don't have the time to put into a job search, since that is often a full time effort by itself if you're serious. I'd much rather have gotten my 6 months of actual severance.

Just when I thought ATT could get no worse, I find out about rebadging. This practice is so horrifying. I am so sorry to the good people that are going through this.

I knew layoffs were happening (and being celebrated by executives) all over the company, but this is just another level of evil.

It is disgusting how ATT treats their employees that have devoted their life to the company.

Remember - shameful upper leadership is causing the company to fail. Don’t let their finger pointing change the way you perceive your value.

While it still stinks, you really get 12 months severance when rebadged vs 6 months when you are surplus, so yes you have to train your replacement but at least get 12 months more work, I would have taken that over the 6 months severance I am getting . And in past rebadge some employees were kept a lot longer than 12 months so you never know

When you are rebadged, your choice is to work for the body shop for a year outsourcing your skills or to "quit". If you "quit", they will argue that this was your voluntary decision therefore no severance.

Your lawyer can argue in court that rebadging was constructive dismissal, wrongful termination, etc. If you make these arguments to T yourself, they'll tell you to go fly a kite.

Nope, from my understanding from folks previously rebadged is either take the job with new company no severance or don’t have a job.

Their out is they offered a job a s employee refused it.
