Overheard a rumor from a craft employee who said that they’re hearing a big craft lay-off coming either this round or next quarter. Any validity?

In 2001 when I hired on with BellSouth we had dial-up INTERNET and Alcatel ADSL 1.54Mbps was the future. My peers downplayed my view about an article that I read, of how people of foreign origin would be able to stream their own hometown news and entertainment over the INTERNET regardless of where they reside in the world. About how surgery may be performed remotely over the INTERNET. In 19 years take a look at where we are today, and where we are heading.
In my humble opinion the future IS NOT at AT&T. I believe that the future is going to be in the web of low earth orbit satellites which will provide everything that the top telecommunications companies provide today, at a much lower cost. Imagine cell towers, fiber, and copper being obsolete in the next few years?

Be willing to bet the surplus will be called off Friday due to the Tucker report and T’s retaliatory email. Hopefully all of this will stop the layoffs for a little bit. Guess we will see.
Most manager positions will be some of the headcount-rationalization work we're doing on overhead, some of the benefit restructuring that we've done that we've already communicated out that get us a good way to some of our objectives this year.
Outside techs been doing bonded pair installs in preparation for this release.without it the outside workforce looks pretty grim

I was surplused 3 years ago. Come on, boys it's time to join the real world. If you prepared you will be ok. If you didn't, don't worry...you will at least get an interview and then you can start at the bottom. But don't be upset if you never see the pay and benefits you got used too. However, your stress will go way down and you will probably be much happier still. GOOD LUCK! Life is good without AT&T!
Prems will be cut to a minimum number to handle what few uverse installs will be left until the move to att tv is made. Then the rest will be let go. Top craft will be force adjusted to fill the gaps as needed and no new hires in those titles. This will be work load fulfillment going forward. Quarterly adjustments will be made company wide to meet the work load and or reduction needed to stay competitive. Top craft retirement attrition will be supplemented with force adjustments to get the desired attrition on a quarterly basis.
Frontier and Centurylink have surpluses, count on AT&T to have surplus as well.
Especially with the “2023” massive cost cutting plan put in place!
In 20+ years I never would’ve thought that there would be technicians hoping to be surplused to just get it over with.
March 13th we’ll know supposedly. Yeah rumor is lots of wireline techs getting surplussed.
