Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

If 2020 was to be a Bloodbath, then where is the blood?

So where are all the never ending, back to back announcements of Surplus, MVO and Outsourcing that we were all promised? To date, only one 3/13 surplus outcry with nothing backing it up with who, what and where details, so it's more than likely bull nettle. I'm sorely disappointed in the Stanky Rat not delivering the pink slips to all those too many mouths to feed.

I really dislike AT&T like everyone else but wishing a surplus affects more people and family’s than just yours. If you don’t like it here than leave, the doors over there just walk through it. If your fortunate enough to have the time you can retire.

I’m hoping it comes soon. I’ll be leaving May 31 unofficially I’ve already left, just collecting a check and doing bare minimum. I’ll be using all of my vacation days and then putting in notice. Once you stop caring, it really is a lot better. No more firedrill hair on fire. I just delete the emails, don’t respond, etc... if a surplus is announced, I’ll be volunteering to collect the severance and save someone else’s job. I just hope it happens before I turn in my notice.

I hope you're being sarcastic OP. There is no reason to hope to see your fellow workers lose their jobs.

Unless we're talking about Ratty and Stinky that is!!

@nyz+13MYq9gn, I agree, there is a cottage industry of AT&T haters that are Union that revel in the idea of AT&T failing in any way possible, it is bizarre but that is the union way oddly enough. About the date spread, that is typical, and that has been going on for 20+ years. But 2020 is supposed to be a bloodbath, and a lot of people, or too many mouths to feed, need firing. So I would have expected a much more accelerated pace of the culling of all the talent.

Like they say on Rawhide: Head em up, move em out!

The remaining announcement dates this year for surpluses (if any) for several groups of occupational employees is 3/13/2020, 6/15/2020 and 9/15/2020. Off payroll for a lot of titles is 2 months later, but depending on the bargaining unit, off-payroll could occur earlier or later.

Generally, a lack of work is the driver for layoffs. If AT&T loses business, and it has some declining businesses, or if they can automate work or introduce efficiencies then, they'll need less people.

There is a cottage industry of doomsayers here trying to damage morale at AT&T. The reality is, no one knows what the layoffs are going to be in the aggregate. For the individual worker, the big indicator is, you're hanging around, twiddling your thumbs.

There is one in progress. The National Business Technical Team got hit really hard. Those impacted will be off payroll by 4-20. It is very sad and a lot of really talented people were impacted.

@bco+13MYq9gn "But what I hear is there will be a huge one in ATO this Spring after all of us get let go in March, so keep hoping I guess" SWEET! I'm hoping, as I'm banking on it, I can't wait to stop being one too many mouths being fed to get kicked out by the awesomeness of John Stankey, oh how I pray. And why can't you be happy being kicked out, you now have all sorts of new opportunities presented to you that exist all over the place outside of AT&T?

Economy is the best ever. Unemployment is the lowest ever. Layoffs? Just a bad rumor. What layoffs?

OP I am sorry you are disappointed there are not more announcements, they are coming so I guess you just have to be patient, but as someone that is a part of the current surplus, I find it so disappointing that everyone one here wants the company to fail and wants more people to lose their jobs, it stinks if you are on this end , so why don't you be happy you are not yet. But what I hear is there will be a huge one in ATO this Spring after all of us get let go in March, so keep hoping I guess

Well, they are usually done over a three month period and rarely overlap. We have one for Q1 in process with employees off payroll 3/30. You can bank on at least one more so I would say it's happening now!!!!!
